Today’s lecture on Reproductive health has been amazing. The lecturer, Dr. Edwinna Syagga taught us a lot, more than what is just on the course content. It was the part on the reproductive health challenges that women face that was really amazing and so touching.
Women go through a lot of reproductive health challenges in my country, mostly due to the men’s mentality. One that was touching so much is the issue of men wanting to have sex with a woman, even before she recovers from childbearing. Another issue is the psychological torture women go through when the husbands hate them and leave them for younger women because their breasts have fallen and are not as sexy as they were when younger. For goodness sake, that is expected to happen after breastfeeding. Worst of all was the issue of some men in a certain community who force themselves into sharing breast milk with the baby, that one breast is for the baby and the other one is theirs.
This happens to the women who lack proper reproductive health information and men who are still ignorant in their male chauvinism. My course is so crucial in passing this information and fighting this bad habits in the societies. I am glad that I will be working in the community to change the habits and mentalities that are ruining the lives of many. While also empowering women and men on their Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.
