Parents Upkeeping

I have seen a lot of the videos that talk about personal financing from the western world. They talk about saving and spending but very little about insurance. Interestingly none of them actually talk about paying for parents upkeep. I am curious, do you pay for your parents' upkeeping? Or am I the only one? Not that I am going to cancel their upkeep but I find it interesting that no one talk about parents upkeeping.

In the USA some kids take care of their parents when they get older and some do not.

It seems like most of the new age generations do not? At least those in Internet do not seems to do that.

What about expenses? Do you supplement their expenses with a part of your salary?

@id_peace I think my parents will be fine, from that point of view. My grandparents have everything they need, they would never accept money from their daughters or grandsons.

In my country, the elders will be taken care of by their children. We don't have institutions or facilities for elders here.

@id_peace I personally think that children can give back the hardships done for them.

This is a good action and thought to have the elders been taken care of by their children.

Very, very few Westerners would factor in their parents' upkeep. Mostly parents are expected to manage their own finances although I'm sure some are very generous and help out if need be. I think it is one of the great differences between Western and Eastern cultures.

Oh Why is it that westerners do not consider parent's upkeep?

@id_peace I guess it is just a dfference in our cultures. Many, many people would help their parents if necessary but it isn't a 'given' in our culture.

You are a good son. But I think normally the parents have money of their own from pension and retirement fund. The child has his own responsibility to think of.

Even if they have all those, shouldn't the child be supporting the parents regardless of their own obligation?
