Termites in Backyard Poplar Tree

Was out walking in the backyard after the rain finally stopped just now. I have two poplar trees that are very large. The birds love these trees and they are great shade trees. So sad to see termites in one of the trees. Not in the base of the tree but about two feet up. Probably means the tree is full of the termites. Someone is suppose to come look at the tree to see if it can be saved. It is not looking good. I hate losing trees. Especially full grown trees. No pictures for now, it was not a pretty site to share. I hope the tree can be saved. Trying to think good thoughts.

Yesterday one client requested a copy of his property because he will ask permit to cut the tree inside his property. You said they will cut the tree and use them to repair their home. I hope they will plant another and more to replace the one they cut.

It is my repsonbility to replace the tree. This one would cost thousands to replace, it is full grown and very tall.

A tree service may be able to save them both. We had carpenter ants munch on so many trees up north that they had to be taken down before they fell on the house.

Better in the tree than the house. Better check the house also. Look for little wings especially on window sills. They swarm and go towards light-windows and drop their wings. I had to get my house treated for them.

@caroldm Ireland has no termites as far as I know (but what would I know) but we had heaps of them in Africa and every so often a tree would come crashing down because it had been hollowed out by termites. Doesn't sound good for your tree.

You are lucky not to have them there. I am afraid this tree is gone.

If that tree is infested like that then the termites may be searching for expansion. The other trees may be victims or worse, the homes.

Uh oh, I had some on my deck last year. I can't afford to have the whole area treated, but I did use bleach as a detterent. It seems to have cleared up the problem for now. I will have to keep an eye on it though since warm weather is about to descend on us.
