Being an Asian, Coronavirus Discrimination

I have heard a lot of discrimination this week towards my fellow Filipinos here in Germany because of coronavirus. Some of my friends heard about a few people behind their back or even in front of them who said, "be careful Chinese are here. Go back to China." It is very hurtful to hear that people think that you are the cause of the virus. In fact, you are not a Chinese person and you have not been to China. It is very stressful for those Asians who are discriminated because of this virus. I mostly go shopping with my better half. I have not observed that the Germans or other people we met have said anything behind my back. If in case I will be treated like this, I will cough near them to scare them off. (That´s what my husband told me to do.) What do you do if you are an Asian and treated like what I have mentioned above? The ignorance of people is very scary. Thanks for reading. Have a nice weekend everyone. The photo is the empty freezer this afternoon in Lidl supermarket.

@marlina I see people of African descent too being discriminated and Indians being resisted in countries as far as US and Australia. The whole thing is so disgusting but some cases do keep on appearing.

I am sorry to hear that. People are so ignorant and I think it is so wrong. Virtual hugs and I sure hope things don't get any worse where that is concerned. I am glad you are doing all right and I love it that your husband just said to cough. Would serve them right to get the dickens scared out of them.

Yes, people are just ignorant and are doing it wrong @RasmaSandra. We are together in this pandemic and we should be respectful of each other. My husband was just joking to me to make me laugh. I don´t think I can do that as I would be in shock. Thank you and have a wonderful new week ahead.

After the 911 attacks in New York City, people in our country from Afghanistan were treated badly! Their children were harassed and injured, at school:( One doctor, people drove by and threw rocks through the window of his office! Some people are so terrible and cruel

@ZedSmart And blaming innocent people, makes matter even worse! Discrimination? It's basically inner hate, surfacing and then reacting wickedly!

That is so bad since they're not at fault. It's just they belong that race but nothing to do with what happen. Some people have just difficulty controlling their emotions during tough times and love to play the blame game.

I don't know why people need to act like that everytime there is a problem. There was an Asian guy on TV last night who was claiming people were saying things about watch out there is an Asian guy or something.

I haven't gotten that directly in the face yet, but oh I can feel it in subtle ways. It is very diverse in my area, but still some people will make their assumptions - and this is even before the whole virus thing hit. I am not one to start confrontations, but if I were to hear this at this time, I would have to give them a few words to set them straight when they know nothing about me. So ugly and ignorant some people are. Ohhh, that is how it is in many of our stores now too!

I'm so sorry for that selfish behaviour. In my books we are all human, all trying our hardest to survive, even those who have had the virus cannot be discriminated against, they did not ask for it.

It is a shame that Asians are blamed for the virus. Come on, It is like saying that all citizens of one nation admire an evil leader. Just let it slide when you are insulted because of your race. It hurts them a lot more when an insult does not affect you as your detractor wants you to feel. It worked for Wordgirl. And she is an alien from Lexicon.

@thelme55 It is very hard to hear words like that. I hate hateful words too. I have heard them all my life about Jews and blaming us for everything. I am surprised we were not blamed for this virus, although maybe there are some that probably do say that. We are a small minority how we can be blamed for things that are not our fault. I can understand how hurtful it feels. Believe me as Jew I have read or heard many things people have said about us that are far from true.

I don't know maybe I'll just ignore them as long as they do not hurt me physically. I think that it's not only them who treat like that. During the first few days of the onset, I can see the same reactions of some of our fellows toward the Chinese people.
