What will happen to marriages?

Somebody writing in the Times today has raised an interesting point. With so many people now being forced to spend much of the day at home instead of at their places of work, what will be the result for married couples? More babies or more divorces?

China has a large number of divorces right now, at the point that they had to limit the number of divorces records/day. "Sorry, too late, come back tomorrow morning."

@LadyDuck You are more lucky than some. For what I heard in China a couple has only to go to a city hall and tell that they want to divorce. Even when a couple agrees it is more long and expensive in Europe.

Before reading your comment I said "divorces". I have heard wives of retirees complaining of the fact that "now my husband is home all the time". At least we lived our life together all the time, nothing new for me.

Don't know, but it is an interesting question. I have seen a lot of memes bouncing around the idea that this will have created the next baby boomer generation. They are going to call them the Coronials.

I am pretty sure more divorces, couples only have the habit to meed a few hours a day, they will get mad living together all the day long.

@indexer I suspect that a lot of marriages only work because husband and wife are apart all day long. I do hope we don't have a population explosion.

In our home, I'd say this is the opportunity for family bonding.

I'm hoping that will happen here, too. It's a great opportunity for families to learn to appreciate each other more if parents use the time wisely to interact with their children.

@bagarad that should be in the home but I know some kids would be bored to stay indoor the whole day. Parents should be creative.

@Alexandoy And some kids would rather play video games, etc. inside than set foot outside.

I suppose both things will happen.

As every retired couple knows, it's a hard adjustment when there is no privacy between periods of togetherness. Usually my husband would be making trips to the gym several times a week to swim. I escape to my office to write and shut the door. We've also had more time to adjust to each other's quirks over the years and learned to be more patients and when to keep quiet. That was not true when we were younger and my husband was laid off for several weeks before finding a new job. Being unemployed made him tense and kind of hard to live with. But we got through it.
