My rice has bugs!

I had thought that only the wheat flour had moths! Not so. Today I finished a kilo of rice I had in a jar and was going to put the other (the last one) there when I saw something crawling. It was a flour moth
.
It was gross. Disgusting! But I remember from mylot about a Chinese friend who told me to put the rice at the sun. I did. In my sun, in daylight, I see a lot better. And there are MANY worms in the rice having a party. Mylot does not allow for some words, but you can imagine. This is not a normal moment. I´m not going out to buy some rice.
I´ll call Claudia to see if she can do something. Meanwhile I´ll eat what I have. I have little flour and no rice left. It will do wonders for my diet

Ah, I knew about the bugs in the rice. My mom always taught us to keep the rice in a tight container because of those bugs. If you find one, chances are they are many more hidden in there. In clearing out the pantry recently, I found bugs in a small bag of cornmeal

In spite of my confinement, I will throw away everything that has any bug. If I have to eat only meat from the freezer, so be it.

@marguicha Oh - I discovered a few months ago that bugs can also exist in pasta packages. I poured a bag of spaghetti into hot boiling water and saw a bunch of brown things floating on top (like sesame seeds) . . . upon closer inspection it turned out to be those bugs. Yuck. I threw out all that pasta. I wouldn't eat bug infested food either - it would not be good to get sick from our food - especially during this time!! We have meats in the freezer too - surely no bugs there

@much2say They love all kinds of flour. A friend told me to place some pasta in the freezer for 4 days. They will all die. I did it with big pasta and will wash it after I take it out (after 6 or 7 days just in case. And then I´ll boil it. But the flour has to go.

@marguicha When we lived far from everything in Malawi in the 60s We had to buy flour and rice etc in bulk and they always got infested with weevils and the like. My mother just ignored them on cooked on. We survived.

We learn to accept things like that and we also learn to be picky. It is cultural.

Bugs are awful. I have never had some bugs other people do. But I have had my pantry infested twice, the 2 times I have invited someone to my house.
