Dining on the Queen Mary 2

In 2013, we were fortunate enough to go on a cruise on the Queen Mary 2. We always looked forward to our meals on this magnificent ship. The menus were always interesting. I hope you can see the menu clearly enough to see that the first group of dishes come under the banner of Canyon Ranch Spa. Canyon Ranch Spa was a health club that operated on board. Employees of the club gave talks on various subjects every day. Most of these were aimed at getting you to pay extra for consultations, spas and massages. As the ship was made up mostly of older people, there was also much advice on how to lose weight and become, or stay, fit. The top group of dishes were those recommended by the health club. The number of calories in each dish was listed and the idea was that if you were over-weight, you might like to choose from these dishes. I’ll do another post showing the choice of main course and dessert.

I leave the healthy selection for those who are not healthy. I prefer to not count calories.

I pay attention at home, but I would never diet during a cruise, no way!

@JudyEv We ate more when we were young, now we eat very little, when we travel we often only order appetizers.

@LadyDuck It's a great shame in a way as I can really only eat one course now. If I have dessert as well, I don't always feel so well afterwards.

It seems that you had a great time on the ship, eating lots of culinary specialties.

The food was beautifully presented too. It seemed a shame to cut into the meals and spoil the design.

@judyev I look forward to hearing about the rest of the menu. It was the dining that I enjoyed most when we sailed Australia. I was only 13 and used to living in the bush, far from sophisticated dining. At every meal there was a printed menu with paintings of Italy on the front cover - Italian ship. I especially enjoyed taking afternoon tea which is when I discovered Melba toast. All very civilised.

We had silver service high tea once or twice. All very civilised indeed. I still haven't had Melba toast.

Did you have more than one choice for dinner or was chicken what was served? It's good they were interested in the health of their passengers.

No there was a huge choice. The photo on the next post shows more main course choices (although for some reason they call them 'entrees') and the dessert menu.

The cruise was in 2013. I wouldn't want to be on a cruise ship at the moment.

I will take one of each please! I think I would especially enjoy the scallops with artichokes and the Lime Pot de Creme.

The Queen Mary 2 seems to be intended for the elderly and people that are crazy about body building.

They liked to keep everyone busy and there were a lot of exercise classes to choose from as well as yoga, Pilates, etc.

We have eaten in the special restaurants onboard cruise ships. I wonder if that’s the same Canyon Ranch Spa from Tucson, Arizona?

I never had trouble choosing something. There was always something I liked, usually two or three things.

I think I'd like the scallops please. Some Rilette of duck sounds tempting as well. And salad. I definitely want some salad.
