Back in 2013, we had nearly three weeks cruising on the Queen Mary 2. On one of our days at sea, a competition was held for the chefs.
There were various sections ranging from decorative table-pieces made out of dough to enormous platters of appetisers to plated single meals and luscious desserts. Guests were invited to vote for their favourite in each section.
I'm not sure how many chefs were on board but with 1600 passengers it was a good number. The food was excellent and the presentation was superb. The entries in the competition were all quite stunning. Some of the dishes would have taken hours to prepare. The ice sculptures were also very good.
On another afternoon, guests were invited to watch three chefs prepare three dishes. Vince went to this and said he enjoyed it. As he does most of the cooking, I didn't bother to go in case I was expected to create something spectacular on the days when I do cook!

My goodness look at those fancy foods.
No I had never been in a cooking competition.
But years ago, I always wanted to enter a pie contest in the county fair.

One of the things I love about cruises is how much they feed you, and how much the cooks take pride in the presentation of their food. There have been some pretty interesting creations I have seen over the years.

@JudyEv That's the other thing I loved about being on a cruise ship. There was all the food you could possibly desire, and it was available all day long. I always gained weight when I went on cruises.

They were very impressive. It's a pity we weren't allowed to sample any.

I can appreciate the efforts of others. But when it comes to details and presentation when I'm cooking I don't bother making an effort. It's bad enough that I already spend more time making things than it takes my family to devour them.

That's how I feel. We make more effort if we're having folks to dinner and Vince always presents his meals nicely. I tend to just slap it on the plate.

.

that seems fascinating. Is everything edible?
