my roots are going to get *really* long

The last time I went to a salon, I just got my hair cut. I figured there would be time later for me to come back for another appointment and have my roots rebleached and dyed.
Now I wonder if I made a mistake since I have no idea when I'm going to get to a salon again. Bleaching at home doesn't really work well for me, as my natural hair is pretty dark and resistant, and I can't really see what I'm doing all over my head.
I can keep the red part still looking bright red, as I have a color depositing conditioner. I'm going to have a LOT of dark roots though... just like everyone else who colors their hair, I suppose.
I think we're all going to have interesting looks by the time we can leave our homes!

@MALUSE That was something I always worried about Rapunzel as a child, that the prince would pull her out of the tower window!

Oh, I've attempted bleaching at home before. It doesn't go very well. My hair never gets past a dark orange stage. The volume of bleach in home kits isn't high enough for my hair. I need the professional stuff.

@CarolDM Yes, I'll be lucky to have an appointment within the first month of the salon reopening.

@spiderdust I cut my hair myself since 1999, no problem about that.

Yes, you only have to worry about dealing with the length!
I know a lot of people cut their own hair, but I've never done my own successfully.

I had my hair done four weeks ago tomorrow, so it’s pretty good right now.
However, I could use a trim,
As far as roots go, the bit of platinum growing in blends in pretty well with the blond right now, but we are all in the same boat.
I’m more worried about my nails.

Yes, we may have to get more familiar with home manicures and pedicures.
Do you have acrylics? Do you know how to remove them at home if necessary?

@spiderdust I have those powdered dips. I have a French manicure, so it’s not that obvious - YET!
Thank goodness I have nail polish remover here and two emory boards. I’m glad I paid attention on how they removed them.

@spiderdust first there were the silver threads, then they spread, then full salt and pepper. All of that looked fine.
But then, when it was mostly gray but still quite a bit of brown, then it didn't look so good for a couple of years. Purple shampoo helped.
Completely white looks fine. I was always too lazy and too cheap to colour it.

If my hair follows what my mother's did, I'm more likely to become steel grey rather than white. I think white hair is lovely!

Oh, I'll just let it grow out until I can get to a professional. If I really hate it, there are hats and bandanas!

@spiderdust This is true. Hats and bandanas can work very well in a situation such as we are in. lol

I guess if you let it grow out long enough, you could pass it off as an ombre.
I love that red though!

Thank you! My natural hair is pretty streaked with grey, so I'm not sure how easily I can pass it off as intentional ombre... but I think I'll learn to live with it.

Its been 5 weeks since my last cut and colour.
And it looks like it!
You can at least do cool aid to fix your roots, my colour isn't something we'd see in a drink.
I may rethink this whole colour processing thing by the time that I can actually get a hair appointment again. I think that a lot of us will be doing that.

No, Koolaid wouldn't work on my natural hair at all, it's too dark. I'll be ok.

I am glad I just trim my own hair and I stopped dying my hair some time ago to save money.

Yes, I think all the natural haired folks are probably laughing at the rest of us right now!

My roots have been needing to be done for well over a year. But they arent too much darker than the other parts, as I've needed to get the rest done since then, too. Lol. So I'm like 4 shades of brown.

I guess this virus had other plans. You did not know that this virus would ruin your plans. You could be right there about interesting looks when we can leave our homes.
