About my roadrunner

Before the Paradise CA fire, I visited a music buddy up there. At his house was the cool wooden roadrunner that someone had carved. It was just lying there in then dirt, and my friend saw me admiring it. He said I could have it if I wanted, and I brought it home.
I cleaned it up and am now applying Watco Walnut Danish Oil to the top. It really brings out the grain of the wood. It's a sticky process, but all I have left to do is the head. After that, I'll oil up the bottom with a lighter oil, Howard's Orange oil.
There are already two holes in the bottom where dowel rod legs must have lived at some time. I will redo the legs and then mount my roadrunner an a nice chunk of wood. I'll do a little roadrunner research to see what angle I want him (or her) mounted at.
Ultimately, it will be my "welcome bird," either here in CA or at the Montana cabin. Hey, it beats floating dogs!

Hope you can find a wood-carved coyote to put behind it.
It’s gorgeous, and a fine finishing job you’ve done to it!

@m_audrey6788 An old rancher we kids were friends with years ago (in Montana) ALWAYS had projects going on in his garage. I guess I'm carrying on his spirit a little bit.

Nice looking bird. Someone did a lot of work carving it.

@TheHorse I especially like the use of the knot whorl to delineate the wing. Does it show on the other side?

@BarBaraPrz I'll take a picture later. The other side IS different. I have no idea what kind of wood this is. But I can tell you it's quite light (not heavy).

@spiderdust To this day, I still don't know if "Acme" really exists!

@TheHorse I still remember the first time I ever saw an ACME supermarket. I thought it was strictly a corporation within the Looney Tunes world!

@Jessicalynnt I've gotten away from it recently, and I don't know why.
