Do you like cast iron cookware?

I have several cast iron skillets of various sizes. I like to use them for many things. I even have the flat griddle for warming tortillas. Cornbread has to be made in a cast iron skillet. So does pineapple upside down cake. I just made a caramel apple cake in one as well. I have a cast iron "Dutch Oven" and some other special pans. The only thing I dislike is that you cannot put cast iron through the dishwasher. It will ruin the "seasoning". I have some stainless steel cookware which can be used and go through the dishwasher, though.

Most of the time I can just rinse or lightly scrub mine. I think I go through phases.

@GardenGerty yeah, ive been way too lazy to add work with that pan, sometimes you can boil water in it, then scrub it to get off stuff too.

I like it, but I always found it too heavy. I have stainless steel.

We use our cast iron skillet for cornbread. My brother used it recently to cook steaks and they were delicious.

I don't think we have anything cast iron. But I could be wrong. I remember once, a long time ago, I was wrong.

I am not sure what all I do have. Some of them are more for looks than use, though.

@GardenGerty I know we have an old camp oven in the workshop. It's as heavy as all get out.

I really like my enameled cast iron cookware. I only have a couple of pieces, but I use them every day. The enamel coating means I don't have to worry so much about seasoning the pans.

I have an old La Creuset pan that mom and dad got second hand. It is still great. I like to make lasagna in it. I also use it to toast my granola.

@GardenGerty One of mine is a Le Creuset, the other is a Cuisinart. Both of them were gifts. I use the Cuisinart one more because it's a more convenient size, but it's showing wear more quickly. The Le Creuset is a 9 qt. Dutch oven, and I still use it often.

we were given one and it was so thick and heavy. what we need is a new pressure cooker, so that's in the list when the malls reopen.

That mostly what I use or glass. I just season them again after washing them.

I use, almost exclusive, my grandmother's skillet and the other grandmother's Dutch oven. I really like the way they cook. Nothing else feels comfortable.

I had two 12 inch skillets, I have a 10 inch one, and a 6 quart Dutch oven. I used to use the 12 inch ones all the time back when I was cooking steaks in the winter for my ex and I. I kept them seasoned with flax oil. I left one of them at the house when I moved out since I took ALL of the other cookware. I use the 10 inch one for a specific pan pizza recipe on Serious Eats. They also have some skillet cake recipes for that size pan but I've never tried them. The Dutch oven I use for baking bread. I have a Le Creuset enameled Dutch oven for my regular soup/stew making.

I have one cast iron skillet that is hidden in the cabinet. I've seen some cast iron skillet desserts that I've considered making, but otherwise I just use a copper frying pan, or a regular soup pot for most anything I cook.

Each type of cookware lends itself to different things.
