I got jabbed in the tummy

I got jabbed in the tummy yesterday. It was time for my six-monthly osteoporosis needle which is given in the stomach. I’m sure it’s only three months since the last one but I guess they know what they’re doing. Lol I had to pick up the prescription from the chemist and take it to the doctor’s. The price was on the packet and was $6.90, which is the cost for many of our common drugs. However, they also had the full price on the label which was $217.46. I’m glad I didn’t have to pay that much.Vince might have said I wasn’t worth it. I don’t have a photo of my tummy so here is one of the war memorial in Albany, Western Australia. It’s Anzac Day and the streets should be full of people commemorating the Aussie soldiers who died in the various wars. There were no Anzac Day parades in 1919 or 1920 because of the fear of Spanish flu. This year, many have stood at the ends of their driveways to show respect to our veterans.

To think that happened 102 years ago, could it be a cycle for future generations? I'm really glad I don't have to get that kind of shot.

No-one seems to learn from the mistakes of past generations.

True @JudyEv it seems the teachers don't teach history very well anymore.

I don't like injections in my stomach. I guess it's because the skin seems more sensitive.

@JudyEv It doesn't really hurt but it can burn or sting a little.

@simone10 True. Any needle hurts a bit. I'd rather not have them at all.

That was nice that people stood at the ends of their driveways to show respect for your veterans. Even in the midst of a pandemic people are still remembering veterans. That's a nice tribute. I hope that needle in your tummy didn't hurt too bad.

@JudyEv I'm glad you're a tough girl. I don't mind needles at all, and don't think they hurt when I get poked.

It didn't hurt at all, thanks. Or maybe I'm just incredibly tough!

@JudyEv I have to go have them check my bones. I was going to have them checked in May but because of this virus I decided to change it to August. It was quite some time that I I had my bones checked so the doctor wanted me to check them this year.

We've just had our dental appointments cancelled. We have to make new appointments in a couple of months.

@JudyEv I only had my doctor appointment cancelled and had no other appointments to cancel so far. I changed one that I have in May to August and hope it will be ok by then.

Is that injection supposed to help preventing osteoporosis? I have never heard about this so a bit curious. (hope you don't mind)

I don't mind at all. It's called denosumab and is supposed to slow or stop bone loss. I've got my doubts about it stopping bone loss altogether.

@JudyEv I keep hearing about women who after reaching 30 or later (menopause?) suddenly got this problem. I am scared in a sense. (A few neighbors of mine, youngish, in their 40s, Dutch background, have been using wheelchair for several years now. They still can walk but only with a walking stick. They say the wheelchair help them move faster.)

@YrNemo Once you get in a wheelchair then your muscles deteriorate faster. I think it's best to keep walking as long as you can.

The injection sounds quite painful (the tummy part) and I hope its effective in preventing bone loss

I hope so too. The injection wasn't painful but thanks for your concern. Once it pierced the skin, it just went into fat!

The needle didn't hurt. I wonder why they don't put it in your arm like most other injections.

I saw it was Anzac Day and thought of you or Australia when I saw it. It's good they stand at the end of their driveways to show respect. I had a choice of needle or tablet. I'm taking the once a week tablet for osteoporosis.

@JudyEv If you get a natural calcium supplement it should be okay.

I'm supposed to take a calcium supplement but there was some negative press about that so I stopped it. I should really read up more about it.

I took the pills when I had osteoporosis. I don't think I'd care for the shots! Interesting post about Anzac Day.

If Vince balked at the full price, ask him how he would like caring for you with a broken hip? 6.90 sounds like a super price!

I made Vince guess at the full price so he said $50. I said higher. He said $80 and so it went. Eventually he got to $210.
