One Good Meal

I came home from the store Saturday. I saw a cat in my yard. It was very skinny, very dirty looking, and obviously unloved. I wondered if someone dumped it in the park or if someone went home and left their cat. I decided to feed it some tuna with oil that I was saving for a famine. I tried to show the kitty that it was there but it just ran away. I put the can under a bush and went in. The next day, I found the can licked clean. I gave him one good meal and hopefully saved him from starvation. I have not seen him again. Good luck kitty. Come back if you want more. Do you feed animals that are hanging around?

Poor kitty, I always put outside food for the animals, no matters who come to eat during the night.

@akalinus I am sure that the cat loved the tuna. I have many cans of tuna in the pantry, but they are available everywhere here.

@LadyDuck They seem to be scarce. Part of the problem is that they keep extending the shutdown and people are afraid they will run out of food so they hoard it.

Some things like tuna are in short supply here so I hope the cat liked it.

I had two cats when I was a child, both were strays that I found and brought home. Mom loved them, dad wanted nothing to do with either of them, and kept saying we needed to get rid of them. Guess who ended up loving those cats more than anyone in our home? haha, yep...dad!

Cats know who does not like them. They find ways to make the person love them against their will.

Me too, my friend saw it and said I should feed it something. I don't have cat food but maybe I should buy some just in case.

@JudyEv That cat has not been back. I hope the tuna gave it enough energy to go wherever it was going. Even something can make all the difference. If it comes back, I will feed it again.

My place is the stopping off station for any hungry animal. I can't say "NO" to feeding hungry critters...I have regulars of course. I feed the deer, squirrels, raccoons, coyotes and so many more creatures. Of course I also have Petey the ginger tabby and Jonesy the long haired calico that live with us...they have life pretty easy with their regular feeding schedule. It sounds like your visitor was a feral cat...or could be someone dumped him off at your place. One of the neighbor's sons has a small ranch and it is a prime target for people just wanting to dump cats. They figure that the small ranchers will appreciate having more mouths to feed...and that they cats can take care of themselves by hunting. They don't realize how cruel it is to simply dump a batch of kittens off at the side of a road. Cats can't exist on what they can manage to catch, they need their diets augmented with cat food. Fortunately the son decided to keep the kittens and the local humane society took care of spaying and neutering and rabies shots for free as long as the son agreed to house and feed the cats. Anyhow it was mighty kind of you to provide the poor thing with some food. Not to many people would reach out like that and help the poor thing. If he needs more help he'll be back, he knows a kind heart when he finds one.

I do the same thing, not so often but whenever I see a cat coming into my yard Also, something I started from almost doing is leaving birds with food in the winter ... I have a lot of little birds in the winter in my yard

That is wonderful. And I'm sure the birds are grateful because it is hard for them to find food in the wintertime.

It is good that there are no strays. It means that people are taking care of their pets. I feel that you have a good heart.

I usually don't because if you feed cats here, you have to take them to the vet and get rabies shots. I could not do 'nothing.' This poor thing was starving.

@Spontaneo If the cat comes back, I will give it more tuna until I have a chance to buy real cat food. I really can't afford a cat but I can't let it starve either.
