Landing in a new country - deep in the African bush and with no indication of where true North was, it was good to have small signs around that gave us and indication to where we were and where the rest of the world was too. Almost like an instant compass - just for in the event you seek the sunrise or the sunset.

I usually check for the moss on the trees trunk to know where is the north, but those signs are useful.

in Africa moss rarely grows on trees except in the Jungles - but thats a good idea

@Inlemay It is always thicker on the north side, I learnt this when I was a kid in school. Of course also looking where the sun rises it helps to know where east and west are.

It's easily to get totally disoriented at times. We found it strange that, being in the northern hemisphere the sun's arc went from east to west but towards the south whereas it's towards the north in Australia. That always threw us.

I agree. Signs are very helpful especially when you`re new to a place

That can be confusing if it weren't for those small signs.
