The full title of this book is A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs a potted history .
These were the sort of pottery dogs that many people kept on their mantelpieces in the 19th century. I brought this book because I am a dog lover and I also like antiques , so I thought it would be a good addition to my book collection.
This book is an A-Z guide of information about what to look for if you want to start collecting Staffordshire dogs. I brought a pottery Staffordshire dog from an antiques fair several years ago. Since reading this book , I have learned that the dog I own would be worth more if I had a pair of them. So now I keep looking for another one to go with mine but I have to find one that is looking the other way to mine otherwise they will just be two identical dog figures and not a true pair.

@lazydaizee Do you have a book on Beswick ornaments? I have quite a few of the horses. I collected them for quite a while but am now gradually selling them again.

@JudyEv Funny you should ask that because I do have a book on Beswick ornaments. I will have to find it out and read through it again.

Some of them do look a bit old fashioned now , but the one I own is a Dalmatian and it looks a bit more modern than some of the designs.

The one I own is a Dalmatian, but they made figurines of several different breeds of dogs. Some of them look strange and do not really look like the sort of dog that they are representing.

I also love dogs but I don`t have pets because my husband gets irritated very easy when something is around roaming and making a noise

You are being sensible about not owning a dog because if your husband does not like them it is best not to get one. I know another couple where one partner wanted a dog but the other partner did not. He got the dog in the end but it caused a lot of arguments.

@lazydaizee Yes. I don`t like arguments. That`s why it`s better not having one

I will keep looking, but for it to be a pair of dogs, they both have to be facing in opposite directions. When I go to the antiques fair and I see a similar dog, I can never remember which way my dog is facing. I do not want to buy another one that is facing the same way as mine.

@lazydaizee
How about taking a picture of the one ou have and then you will know which way it is facing?

@Hannihar That is a good idea, I will do that next time I go to an antiques fair. I will ask my husband to take a photo on his phone because I do not use mine for taking pictures.
