Surprise Robin Nest on my Deck

Was out walking around in the yard just now. Picked up a few limbs from the storm. I noticed a robin on my deck privacy fence. Kind of odd. They are usually in the trees or the yard. Walked on the deck to see what was going on and tah-dah, a nest. It is huge. It goes all the way back in the corner of the fence. The spot is not the best, a lot of traffic in this area. Birds are always flying around and the hummingbird feeder is close as well. I will watch this nest and see what happens. Robin eggs would be nice to see. They are a beautiful blue. I hope for the best. Sometimes they build, then get scared away and do not return. I will keep you updated.

I just noticed a couple of blue-jays moving in the tree outside my living room but hope they aren't setting up as the maintenance people are ready to cut the trees back for hurricanes!!

I have many of those as well. Pretty birds. But a little aggressive. They do not like being disturbed.

We can't see the nests so low here, they are mostly on rooftops or trees.

I know, the robins can be aggressive about their nests, so time will tell.

i would argue CBL -(your designation not mine) that it isn't surprising. It is surprising to me when birds don't build nests near your home!

I have seen wren houses close to the homie but never a robin nest on the deck. I hope it is a success.

@DocAndersen The yard is fenced in. But cats climb the fences.

You sure seem to discover a lot of nests. The only things that seem to abound around here are squirrel nests, there are lots of those around.

@CarolDM Ohh, Almost all of the trees around here are very tall, even if their was a nest, I probably wouldn't see it.

My yard attracts a lot of birds, lots of trees and I feed them during the winter. This will bring them back in the spring.

We rented/lived in a house in Cedar Park, Texas and I guess the tenants before us were the ones who left the birdhouse. I loved looking outside to see if any birds would visit.

That really is a big nest. A couple of years ago we had a hanging fern outside and a sparrow built a nest in the fern. There were 3 little eggs in it so we had to stop watering the plant because we didn't want to drown any babies that hatched. Well, I guess the parents got spooked because they abandoned the nest. I felt so bad for the poor babies that never hatched.

Robins sometimes make large nests. But the actual nest for the eggs is hidden in the corner and is very small.
