Do you have bubble and squeak from time to time?

In Tina Dalasinski (@Tina30219) discussion, https://www.mylot.com/post/3366391/dinner-may-6th, she mentions having hash for dinner, which was leftover roast meat and vegetables fried up together. I mentioned that I liked it best when there was leftover cabbage in the mix but that we used to call it ‘bubble and squeak’. This made me think what a strange name to call a dish off I went to Google. The name comes about apparently as the cabbage makes bubbling and squeaking sounds. The main ingredients in bubble and squeak are potato and cabbage, along with any other roasted vegetables together with cold chopped meat. The earliest known recipe appeared in 1806 and the term is used mainly in England (and south-west Western Australia lol). Do you make a version of hash or bubble and squeak when you have leftovers from a roast dinner? Photo of a fruit tart, half of which Vince had recently. Doesn’t it look delicious?

I never heard of this dish but I am not a fan of cabbage, I like to serve leftover roasts with grilled vegetables. The fruit tart looks delicious.

We often have cold roast sandwiches for lunch to help use up leftover meat.

I've read quite a bit of English literature so I have heard of bubble and squeak. When we had roast we sometimes got out our hand grinder and ground the roast in with raw potato, a piece of bread to clean the grinder, carrot, onion. Then we'd fry it all up. Very tasty.

I've made similar many times over the years. Curiously when I saw your title it made me think of a Nancy Drew computer game I used to play with the kids.

I thought it is like playing bubble burst; one that we can get from packages to protect the item.
