--the contract was not renewed. It is one of the big issues in my country now. I cannot understand why they did not renew the contract for this particular TV station. My mother is whining about it because she cannot watch her favorite TV programs. It seems like there is a political agenda.
Do you think it is justifiable to shut down the TV station?
How difficult to renew a contract?

@jrlcentral I only know what I have read here, most people think it's a political matter, it is almost always the same when it comes to important media.

It's true that the President had an issue against the station, but he publicly put it aside. The franchise expired last May 4. The renewal is still pending. And there were complaints against the station regarding their supposed to be free services the call the Black Box (a digital wireless TV decoder) that was supposed to have zero subscription fee for those who bought the unit.
But the network added a pay-per-view channel, which, I believe, was a violation of their license
Then again there is this Solicitor General who meddled in the issue and pressured the NTC.

@LadyDuck Though, I can't fully discount that it is politically motivated, there are other news outfits that are actually doing worse in their reporting. They also gained the ire of the President as well, but they were not closed.
Perhaps ABS-CBN, on the other hand, treaded way too much on the grey area of their business side and probably went overboard.
They will be back though. I'm sure this just temporary.

@DocAndersen I am sure it can be put against me virtually. But I don't care. I will still practice my freedom to speak, either offline and online.

The political agenda came to my mind at first, but I'm not familiar enough with politics in your country, so I can't say anything for sure. The question is whether they even had a chance to renew the contract?

It's not the contract, @Shavkat, it's the franchise license renewal. It's the congress who gives the license. This issue lingered in Congress for three years already.
NTC could have allowed the ABS-CBN to continue with a provisional license as told by Congress. But there was pressure from the SolGen who wasn't supposed to meddle on that issue.

It could be political; the TV station management said they had been applying for a new contract sine 2014; they got some assurance, and yet the House of Representatives failed to approve it.
