If this gives me a headache, how is Little Miss supposed to understand it. And this whole way of them doin it makes no sense, seriously her Mom told me they give them assignments but don’t have Them turn them in...
Anyway I’m going to get back to playing homework referee after this headache takes it leave...

Yes that’s the issue, they didn’t really clarify what they wanted to well!

@Michellekidwell Well, the one question showing is asking the total orders, and that just means counting the total number of xes.

@paigea Thank you, now that I see it, it makes sense...

Well, it looks as though above the line represents a sort of bar graph of orders for ham of different weights (shown below the line). I'd say that it's asking for the total number of orders of all weights, which just means counting the x's (20), I'd expect the other questions to ask for something like the total weight of ham needed to fulfil the orders (multiply the weights for each column by the number of x's in that column and add the results)
Little Miss ought to have been shown this system before in class, though with the current situation, that may have been missed out or not have been clear if she's doing online classes.

@Michellekidwell Haven't they been doing online classes? I think that my grand-daughter (aged 12) has, though I'm not sure. Some schools have been sending emails to the parents, which can have patchy results because not everyone is a natural teacher! I completely agree that some of the methods they teach nowadays are completely different from the way we were taught, especially in Maths!

I don’t think she was, because she’s been out of school for over two months, and honestly I think some of the way they are doing things is confusing

20 X would mean 20 orders. I am surprised they do not ask how many for each pound.

I had enough problems with math as a kid, but how they do math now days? It is so confusing. I tried helping my niece and she was telling me how they added problems and I taught her how we learned and she was like "that was a lot easier...Why do they make us do it this way?" I have no idea!

6 pounds? Surely she can email the teacher and ask questions?

Next time I may have to, for some reason she gets really nervous!

I would expect more questions like how many orders for 1/4 pound etc.
