All Tied Up

United States
May 11, 2020 8:01pm CST
Was asked to make 5 masks with ties instead of ear loops. Of course I said yes. Completed 3 using cotton yarn that I crocheted into 16” chains for the ties. Ran out of the yarn. So I made the ties for the last 2 from fabric. She asked if she could get 3 more masks. I whined a little because making the 4 ties per mask was taking a long time. But I said yes. It took a long time to complete the masks. The ties took the longest to make. Would I make them with ties again? Yes, but only if I had grosgrain ribbon or bias tape. Or, maybe not.

I prefer the loops myself. I only have one because my nurse friend sent me one from a neighboring state.

There are so many that need the masks and can't find them. I am going to work on getting a bunch done this week so I can have a stock pile and then let people know I have some available. Because I get my materials for free, I can give them to those who need them.

I think the ties are more flexible since not everyone has the same head size.

I would end up tying my long hair into them. I prefer the loops. Not the elastic type though.

Maybe the folks could put their own ties on, even if they used safety pins.

Elastics can hurt your ears from time to time so the material ones are much better I would say. You have done well there.

I was pleased with how well they came out. Making the ties took way longer than I thought they would.

They look great, it sounds like they were a lot more work then the ones with the loops are.

I have both and prefer the loops. My hair is too silky and the ties slide around. I don’t feel safe.
