Do you have a pet now?

I heard more and more people have a pet because of the lockdown. Having a pet can make you feel calm and you are not alone even if you have to stay at home all the time. I have small tropical fish at home and actually we have kept them for quite a long time already. Of course I like to have a pet like a cat, but on the other hand it needs more responsibilities and this is why I haven't made up my mind yet. We all have to go to work and school now. And I don't think it is a good idea for us to have a cat now.

@Alexandoy That's cool that the dogs can go to the mall.

@youless yes, I can say our dogs are lucky because we treat them as family. They enjoy riding in the car especially when we bring them to the mall.

@youless I have a cat. I want to tell you my view on having a cat. Cats are very independent. They take care of themselves. They know how to use a litter box and sleep a lot. They stay by themselves and give you love and are very entertaining. If you have to go out they will be there waiting for you. The decision is up to you, but, I wanted to give you some background on a cat. Cats do not have to be walked like dogs. I do not know if this helps you in your decision, but, I just wanted you to know you do not have to worry about a cat if you have to go to work. I have been gone hours. I make sure I come home to my cat and will not leave her overnight. That is me.

I had cats in the past and what you said is true. But if I ever have a cat again, I think I will start to have a walk with my cat when it is little so that it is easier for the cat to get used to it

@youless i agree with hanni. dogs are more active and need more space and can be noisy, too. but i also like your idea of training the cat to walk while still young.

@hereandthere I did see once a cat walked with its family with a bell on but none of my cats would ever walk with me.

I read a story about shelters encouraging people to foster pets because so many people are home right now. I already have two dogs, one I have had for nine years, and a seven year old dog I adopted the day before Thanksgiving last year. I don't think I could handle a third.

Sometimes I think a dog needs the attention much more. Sometimes a cat will behave very cool when you are around. I had both in the past and this is how I feel

@youless You need to bring the dog out, while you do not need to bring your cat outside. The cat of my neighbor is very sweet and he follows me everywhere when I am outside.

I don't have a pet at the moment but that certainly doesn’t mean I don’t like animals, I just don't have time to dedicate at the moment

I understand. I know it is not an easy decision to have pets at home since it needs a lot of respoonsibilities.
