Refusing to go back to work

I was reading this article about getting back to work when places start opening again. It was talking about if you have the right to refuse to go back to work or not. Unfortunately, there is no simple yes or no answer to this.
There is the answer that is simple in a way, yes you can refuse to go back to work, however you will not get the benefit of still collecting unemployment benefits. Well, there is a catch to that too. If you can prove that the employer is not providing a safe work environment you might still get benefits, if you can prove that you have to supply family support and can not come back to work, or if you yourself are ill in some way that prevents you from returning to work.
You can not just decide that you don’t want to come back to work because you are enjoying the time off. We all know there are some people that are getting paid more from unemployment now than they were getting paid at their jobs so some people are not looking forward to going back to work and making less money. Unfortunately, that is what is going to happen to quite a few people. It is a mind set people are going to have to get use to and figure out how they can deal with that.
My situation is quite difficult, my company was in the process of closing when all this happened and none of us have jobs to go back to now. I am needing to find a job when a lot of companies are not hiring due to the virus. I don’t know when my unemployment benefits will end or when they will go back to a lower rate then they are right now. Will companies start hiring anytime soon? I may have to just ride this out until my benefits run out that then take what ever I can get even if it is not enough money. Something is better than nothing I suppose.

I hope that you can still find something soon. It's really hard to start again during this times.

@Bensen32 True. But people are still scared to even go out since there's no vaccine yet.

I'm so sorry. That has to be so difficult and worrisome. I hope companies start hiring soon so you can find something.

It is really complicated, that is for certain. Some we know are afraid to go back to work, but will go because they don't want to lose their jobs.

We are hoping that my husband has a job to go back to. He has been furloughed since March 18th. They aren’t communicating.

There are tons of jobs available here. All the stores are hiring. I am not saying great paying jobs but they are available for those who wish to work. If I was not retired and in need of employment, I would apply to work as I have no fear of this virus. Politicians with their bribery of a monthly check for life have exploited the virus into a political agenda to be extended for as long as possible.

I agree with that and I hate sitting around but at this point I still need to make enough to pay the bills and the stores and gas stations that are hiring are not paying enough for that so staying on unemployment makes the most sense right now for me anyways. We'll see if that doesn't change anytime soon.
