I spent my working life as a professional librarian, qualifying in 1976 and finally ending my career in 2018. I now offer my services in a voluntary capacity at the public library in the village a mile down the road. During the lockdown the library has had to close, which has given me more time to work on my other "library" of blog posts, and it strikes me that there are some strong resemblances between the two! I use Google BlogSpot to house my collection of articles, each of which could be said to be a "book", although considerably shorter. The other main difference between my blogs and my former libraries is that I have written all the articles (more than 2,000)! The articles are contained in separate blogs, which could be likened to the classified sections of a library. The section include Birds (British and Non-British), Music, History (Modern and Ancient), British Geography, Astronomy, and Literature (General and Poetry). There is a Fiction section, consisting of my own stories and poems, and a special section entitled "Weirdness and Wonderment" that I suppose is akin to an "Occult" classification, but it is a lot broader than that. There is also a large "Unsorted" category that contains articles on subjects for which a separate blog is not yet necessary. And that is my "library". As with any library, it needs a good deal of sorting out, and that is what I am doing at present. I also spend quite a lot of time trying to encourage new "borrowers" to pay it a visit, and I also compile usage statistics just as I used to do with my "real" libraries. So has anything really changed in my view on the world, in which everything slots into place on a library shelf and is ready to be accessed by the reading public? I suppose the main change is that I appreciate just how messy the real world is and it cannot be quietly organized into neat categories. However, once a librarian ...

It's always nice to have things organised and tidy whether libraries or computer files.

Thank you for sharing your experience in the library. I miss the traditional library because most of the research now are done online.
