Book Reviews VS Just Talking About Books

I think that there is a difference between reviewing a book and just plain talking about one. With that, I think I've been labeling some of my posts wrong. I don't really review books but I love to talk about them. I like to go into the world and explain what's going on and sometimes there's spoilers even though I try not to. I don't go into details about some authors, I just simply say that I love them. Maybe because it's my opinion and others have their own. In a review, you have to be specific and lay out everything while also trying not to give the end away. When I talk about books I try to give a general overview and maybe a part or two that I love. I try to never be specific unless someone asks in the comments. To me it's easier that way. I don't like to review books but I do love to talk about them. *picture from google

I see any approach as valid. We all have our own styles. But I would let the reader have a "spoiler alert" if you give away important information in, say, a murder mystery.

I would not be good with writing a proper review where you have to be very specific, especially if it is a novel, where you have talk about plot, character development, theme, writing style, etc.

I've had someone ask me to add things into my posts about books but I just like talking about the books I read. I don't want to give spoilers and I don't want to go into specifics. No one really wants to read about how an author writes, you know? We want to know if the book is good or not.

@JordanLader I've read book reviews online where reviewers (and they are regular people not professional reviewers) will criticize an author's writing style. That ain't right.

@lovebuglena True. Everyone writes different just like people enjoy different books. I would rather talk about a book than criticize it for that reason.

I like reading spoilers, but I may be a rare bird. I never mind if someone gives something away, although I'm careful if others don't want spoilers.

I try. That's why I like when people ask questions in the comments. Then I can talk without risking spoilers really.
