These were hiding in our workshop

We have been cleaning out our workshop and today we were sorting through a set of lockers. Several of them power tools; one is full of garden bits and pieces and in the back of another, I found these glass insulators.
Maybe you know all about these. They were placed on the tops of wooden telephone poles to keep the wires from touching the poles. There are a great number of different designs. They also come in a range of colours and are quite popular with collectors. They aren’t worth much so we’ll try to find a collector who might like them and just give them away.
I don’t think there are too many more treasures lurking in the shed. We took a trailerload of bits and pieces to the rubbish tip today. Quite soon, I’ll be able to post an ‘after’ photo of our neat and tidy workshop.

I saw the picture first and thought, “Oh, look, homemade earplugs.”

@JudyEv -- have you ever seen that cartoon spoof of Horton Hears a Who, "Horton hears THE Who"?

My question is, how did they end up in your possession? Were you vandalizing the telephone poles and stealing the glass insulators?

I AM going to empty this shed and tear it down, but first I need my truck. Roberts is in the shop so he is driving mine to work. Maybe this weekend? LOL, maybe not.
Edit... need my truck to load with what trash comes out.

We did a lot of tidying up first but then there was a huge pile of rubbish. It has made a difference getting rid of that.

Seeing this for the first time. I initially thought these were earplugs used while swimming or at high noise zones

@jayanth_77 This would only take one wire. They have different ones now that take a lot of wires or else they use underground cables.

@JudyEv yes they do. But why did the telephone company stop its use. Telephone still exist. Aren't they.

Well done for cleaning out your workshop. It is lovely you have found some collectables. One person's things are a treasure to someone else that likes collecting items like that. I have a collection of costume dolls from lots of different countries.

@JudyEv Yes, I bought all my costume dolls during my travels. My first one came from Finland. I got one in Sweden and Norway. Also on that trip in 1990 I got a lovely one in Hungary. My best one came from Romania in 2006. She is made from wood. I got a very unusual one in 2012 from Brazil.

A time comes in one's life when what was once considered a great find gets the title 'Rubbish'

We're in the process of going through an enclosed porch that hasn't been touched for over 20 years, talk about finding relics. I haven't taken any pictures, but I found some interesting things.

What an interesting post Judy, I have not seen these things before this post or if I have I didn't take any notice. Like many I thought they were the size of in ear earphones but I would have never guessed what they were so that is something else new I have learned today.

I"m glad you enjoyed it. I should imagine they'd be (or would have been) on the tops of telephone posts in England and maybe even in Spain. Of course, what with mobiles, etc, such things as telephone lines aren't so common any more.

We are quite familiar with insulators and have a collection of them. I've never seen them with the metal rods attached.

@LindaOHio There are some very pretty blue ones too. Maybe they're the rare ones.

They are probably nearly 100 years old. It's hard to say but they were in use a very long time ago.
