My seedlings are doing well

I wrote a while ago about planting some seedlings. Some I put in troughs and that’s what you can see in the photo. Others are in a raised bed and are also doing well. In the foreground are three tomato seedlings which came up from seed. They are still very small but are hanging in there. Soon I should be able to take a leaf or two off the lettuce plants. I’m going out to burn leaves later. It’s quite cold out there at the moment – at least by our standards. About 7C.

It would be nice to be able to harvest some vegies from them one day.

@JudyEv Yes from where I live I do not have a goodnplace since we live in a 5th floor of a condo that doesn’t have sunlight since a firewall blocks it so no plants can survive here.

@rsa101 That would make it very difficult to grow plants.

I am glad to see that your plants grow well. I hope you will have a harvest I wonder why you don't plant them on the land and you will even have a bigger harvest

@JudyEv I forgot there are many kangaroos in your country Is it possible to have the fence so that the wild animals can't go to eat your plants?

The kangaroos would eat them so I just have a few up off the ground where the roos can't touch them.

@youless We could but it isn't really worth the money. We're not very keen gardeners and we're away a lot so we don't bother with planting too much.

My brother made the shelving. It's really meant for pot plants. He was totally blind but would measure and cut all the pieces and Vince would just do the welding and painting for him.

Do you keep the plants inside? I know that tomatoes need warm weather. I have my first 2 little tomatoes on a plant. I grew everything from plants of the previous years.

@JudyEv The days are getting warmer, I will soon see more little green tomatoes on the plants. I tried to keep a plant inside during winter, but they stop producing.

No, they are all outside. I don't think it is really the right season for tomatoes but we'll see what happens. Most days are sunny at the moment so there might be enough for them to grow.

I can't believe how much they have grown in such a short time. My grandmother used to have a small garden and she would go out often and pick some lettuce for a salad for dinner.

@JudyEv I would be really excited. I always am when it comes to flowers so I would probably be beside myself if I was growing vegetables.

You have a good start to a garden. I keep crossing my fingers on mine. The rain and wind won't quit but its not freezing at night. So far my pumpkins and tomatoes are still green plants.

The seedlings need adequate sunlight . Not too direct but enough light to help growth. The soil also needs to be wet and not too dry. Little things but they do help to have better growing plants

I've made a mistake really in planting the tomatoes. I think it will get too cold for them. They should be a summer crop and we're going into winter.
