I think Tink stinks

We had to go out of town for an appointment and some other things. The cats had been in all day and chose to go out. When we pulled into our driveway upon our return, there was a distinctive odor of skunk. Mickey was sitting on the porch. In exactly the same place we left him. Tinker followed Bob in. He looked okay, and at a distance he smelled okay, BUT he got up on my lap. The sulfurous odor puffed off of him. The best I can tell, he has one small patch of kitty perfume, aka skunk stink. It is up by his eye on the right side where he cannot wash it, even if he wanted. It is about 1 inch x 2 inches. I think that would be 2.5 cm. x 5 cm. I wiped it down with some V8, but it did not seem to help. He just needs to stay away from me. Tink stinks.

Lots of times I smell skunks first thing in the morning, when my cats are still inside.

We have had frequent skunk visitations overnight when the boys are in. I am thankful he just had a little spot, area about as big as a quarter, max. I was relieved it did not get in his eye. He is all back to beautiful today.

Poor thing! Skunk stink is horrible. Will it go away on it's own?

The tomato juice is supposed to break it down. He seems fine this morning. In fact it bothered me more than him.

@GardenGerty Maybe he wasn't exposed to a lot of it.

Thats a great welcome home. You could try this 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, a quarter cup baking soda, 1 teaspoon dish washing liquid. Wet the fur with water then work the mix in. Let soak for about 5 minutes then rinse well. Just need to be careful as it can sting in the eyes. I know you dont need that much so you could try breaking it down more. My neighbor used this on a dog and it seemed to help a lot. I didnt smell skunk on them when we walked over a couple of days later.

The V8 tomato juice and a little time seems to have helped. He evidently just barely got grazed. Thanks for the info. It matches what @Jessicalynnt said.

I'm sorry he tangled with a skunk. I hope the scent disappears soon.

He must have been "kitty curious" and thankfully mostly missed. He is all well and better today.

It must be a terrible smell. Thankfully we don't have skunks here.

Smells very much of sulfur. Do you have any smelly wild animals in your area?

@GardenGerty Not really. When you walk through the bush there is sometimes a musty smell if a kangaroo has been sleeping there lately.

The skunks seem to frequently range over where you live. They say ,a skunk can kill 5000 mice each year,

I did not know about the mice. I know they eat lots of bugs, though. Yes, we have lots of skunks here in Kansas.

I am glad it missed his eye. V8 tomato is what I had and it must have helped.

Big dog Leah had a discussion with a skunk one evening. She was just miserable. That smell is sulfurous. I worried about her eyes. She finally quit acting like she hurt terribly. I hope Tink does okay.

He must have just barely gotten in to it as it didn't seem to bother him, only me. Needless to say he did not sleep on my bed.
