I made a thing

Do you see the thing? I'm using it as a coaster, but technically it was just a means for me to practice. I found this particular yarn further back in the entertainment center and had forgotten that I did not pack it with the yarn stash that I gave my aunt a few years ago along with the looms that I had bought. I'll admit that I took a flattering picture of this, but there was one or two places where I didn't miss a stitch, but the tension wasn't quite there. This is just the single crochet stitch, eventually I'll remind myself of how to do the double crochet, and then the treble. Actually, I don't remember if I quite learned the treble. This is my attempt at needlecraft, or fingercraft? but well.. The first sounds better.

Love the humor in this and hey we all have to start some where. I do think Kai would come along and use it, look someone made me a chew toy. My sister actually does same thing makes some funky thing to get her skills back and then makes a joke about it, Its a Frisbee I tell ya.

Thanks! It was only at the last minute that I decided to cut the yarn and make it into a coaster. I had thought about just unraveling it. I keep forgetting to chain one when I'm making another row, which is part of why it turned circular in the first place.

It would make a good coaster I never learned how to crochet. When you figure it out again are you going to make something big.

For the longest time, I have wanted to crochet a blanket. I've always had problems with the tension, but using my finger instead of a hook is much easier for me.

Inviting colors, I thought. I'm pretty sure I bought this skein for the purpose of starting a blanket.

I forgot to make another chain before turning the work, which meant it turned out circular when I didn't want it to. Thank you.

Aw that is really cute Amber good job. I started crocheting a while back but got discouraged...long story.

I understand. I've been discouraged several times. Crochet brings me a little closer to my mom's memory, though. I don't plan on making it a hobby, but I would like to make one blanket for myself at least.

When I used to crochet there was rainbow colored yarn that I loved to buy.

If you ever wanted to get back to it, there are plenty of videos on youtube that explains it well. I'm using my finger as the hook, and I feel as if I have a lot more control over it that way.

@simone10 You mentioning the broomstick reminded me of a video I watched a few years ago. It was knitting and not crochet, but they used homemade knitting needles that looked slightly bigger than the average broomstick. I've seen all sorts of way to needlecraft. Arm knitting, finger knitting, finger crocheting... It's really interesting.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My Mom taught me how to crochet. The first thing I ever crocheted was a throw and I had to use a broomstick. It turned out very pretty and I gave it to my grandmother for Christmas.

When I first got the skein, I think I had intended it to be used as a blanket.

Yes, I love it. It's just one strand of yarn. I do not have the label, but I think it was something like Autumn Ombre.

I think it looks nice, and like a great coaster! I have tried crocheting but was never good at it.

For me it was always the tension or forgetting part of the stitch. Like for this piece, it was meant to be square but I kept forgetting to chain one before I started a new row. If you ever wanted to try again, I recommend finding yarn at a thrift store and just using your finger to practice. It has been so much easier for me.

@MommyOfEli2013 Yeah, I'll admit to being amazed at some of the crocheted and knitted creations I've sen and going "wow! That's just awesome! How did they do that?" but also knowing I'd never have the patience for it! I saw a tutorial on making a crocheted blanket with your fingers. The lady used three different skeins of yarn at a time, which would make the blanket warmer, but also work up quicker.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That is understandable -- my cousin was working on some things earlier this year and she was having those issues. Well even if it was meant to be a square - I think it still looks nice how it came out! That's good to hear that doing it that way has been easier - good to know. I don't know if I would have the patience to try again haha but I will keep that in mind

@Lakshman15 I go to youtube to look at videos to show me. The are also kits that hold yarn, a crochet hook and simple patterns that one can follow. I used to use those.

I want to try to finger crochet an entire blanket eventually, which has been my goal for years. I just have to get more confident with my stitches. Thank you, I love the colors too.
