Bigwig - At one time all men of importance wore wigs in England. It was then presumed that the bigger the wig, the more important the man. Lawyers and judges still wear wigs in England.
Undertaker - Undertakers used to be called gravediggers, which alluded to a very unpleasant task. Then they changed it to undertaker because he undertakes this unpleasant task. Undertakers now prefer to be called morticians.
Earmark - Things permanently set aside for a definite use are earmarked because English farmers used to notch the ears of their cattle to permanently identify them.
Cent - The Latin word centum means one hundred; and there are one hundred cents in a dollar.
Varsity - This is just a shortened version of university.

Wig is something people wear to hide their baldness.
Overall it was a good post for me to read new things
