Class is cancelled for this week!

Perth, Australia
June 1, 2020 9:18am CST
Earlier this evening, I got an email from my teacher saying that class was cancelled for this week. I must admit, I'm very happy about that because it gives me more time to catch up on some homework. But, I'm very curious as to why class had been cancelled. It never stated in the email why it was cancelled. Just explained that it was, and that it will give us more time to finish any work and that she will see us on the following week. Part of me feels like replying back saying "Thank you for the email, I hope all is alright." But I don't want to pry. I mean, the reason for class being cancelled may not even be related to her but it's odd that it doesn't state the reason. Anyway, I hope everyone is doing alright. I have been on here but only been sticking around in certain areas so I've not had a chance to explore too much around here and see what everyone has been up to. I would love to know what you've all been up to if you feel like sharing. I do want to be on here for a few hours. Not ready for bed. Well, no actually I'm exhausted but I've been having awful nightmares lately. I have bad dreams almost every night anyway but for whatever reason lately, they have been REALLY scary and / or morbid. The other morning I woke up with a knot in my stomach from absolute disgust. Sleeping is meant to be resting the mind and body but when these nightmares occur, doesn't feel so peaceful.

Was one of the teacher found infected, or under testing so that they had to cancel? I hope that everything is fine.

@VivaLaDani13 I suppose you are right. She surely has some personal problems to take care of, nothing to be concerned about.

@LadyDuck Nah thankfully no one has been infected there. It's a small building and that's the thing, if anyone was found infected, the rest of us would have to know about it. I got a text the next day reminding us that class was cancelled "Due to unforeseen circumstances." I can only assume something personal has happened to our teacher or something within her family.

@LadyDuck Good chance our teacher just may explain what happened tomorrow. She is quite open with things so she just might.

I dont think there's anything wrong with saying that and letting her know someone cares. I hope your nightmares go away, they sound awful. I'll be praying!

The class may be cancelled because of the corona virus. This is the first thought that comes to my mind in the present situation. I don't know why you are so keen to know the reason instead of simply being happy that you can stay at home.

@VivaLaDani13 Ah, good girl! But I think that if she had wanted you to know she would have told you. So, the fact that she hasn't told you may mean that she doesn't want to publicize the details. I was a teacher for 40 years. I never talked about private things in class. I find this unprofessional. Many teachers do this. I've always found that this is a kind of sucking up to the pupils. I always had a good relationship with my pupils but I never considered them my friends. Especially young teachers often make the mistake of being too friendly with their pupils. It's not a good idea because in the end they have to give their 'friends' marks - and then it shows that teacher and pupils are not on the same level.

@MALUSE Thank you. Well, that is why I do not feel comfortable sending an email back as I do not wish to pry. I can understand it from your point of view but in my case, I genuinely hope she is ok. I will not ask or talk about anything unless she mentions something herself. I'm still learning about her but like I said, I have a caring heart and I don't wish for anything to be wrong with her or a family member as she actually has opened up about her personal life a lot. I just hope she is alright, that's all.

@MALUSE No it's not due to the virus. Our classes have never stopped once due to this virus and we would know if that was the reason for this week as we were told we would be updated about it. No harm in me being curious. Not being nosy either! I am happy as it benefits me but I was just hoping everything was alright with my teacher. I have a caring heart is all.

@birjudanak Yeah Australia has done quite well with all of this. I haven't looked to see if there are any new cases yet. But I do know we are doing well. I wish I could say the same for other places around the world. "burn calories." Well all jokes aside, I'm very sorry you deal with horrible dreams!

The teacher needed to have mentioned the reason for class cancellation but maybe it was a management decission which she didn't know off. Don't bother too much as atleast now you have time for completing pending work

@jayanth_77 If it was a management decision, we would have known about it. There is no reason for us to be out of the loop on that one but I believe it's a more personal issue regarding the teacher.

It's a terrible feeling when you're hesitant to sleep because of what awaits your mind in slumber. I am so sorry to hear you are struggling with that. I would be glad class was canceled too. Sometimes homework seems like something you work on 24/7.

@AmbiePam Thank you Amber. Not many people understand this. I get some irritating things said to me like "You're not even trying to sleep." or "Stop having bad dreams." - Like that's even in my control! Oh I agree with that for sure!

It does seem odd that she didn't give a reason. At least now you can take this time to get caught up and maybe rest a little. I'm very sorry you are having nightmares. Do you think it could have to do with some of the subject matter you've been studying?

@simone10 Thank you for understanding and being so kind. I haven't seen anyone in quite awhile now. I was seeing a counsellor for some years but sadly she got cancer and had to stop her job. I was so sad for her. At the moment I'm not really talking to anyone about my issues. Well no one in the counsellor / psychology field.

@simone10 Thank you very much for your answer here. I do wonder if something has happened in our teacher's personal life and that is the reason for the week being cancelled. I also wonder if she will explain when we see her. I will be honest, I cannot tell you the reason for why my nightmares have been so bad lately because I really do not know but I can say that I've been dealing with them for many many years. My personal opinion is because I have depression, anxiety and PTSD. So a lot of my nightmares are me trying to get help but I can't, or my ex trying to abuse me ( because he did in real life ), me being shot at and / or chased after, me trying to climb large hills or walls, being knocked down by large waves etc things like that because my waking live has dealt with / dealing with so much.

@rebelann I can only imagine. I mean, dreams can also be about what's in our subconscious so even if we did read / listen and /or watch something funny / calming, our noggins are still likely to come up with something unwanted to dream about. Yesterday in my dream, Earth got hit by an asteroid. Oh such fun.

@TheHorse Our teacher did end up telling us what was going on. Basically another teacher was going through some personal issues and our teacher filled in for her. So was just easier to cancel our classes for the week. And thank you. I hope so too. I hope you can have more of those sweet dreams.

I hope there is no serious reason for the class to be cancelled. Nightmares can be disturbing. You can go to bed with some good books or music to help you sleep in a good positive mood.

@arunima25 I hope it's not serious either. I still feel like something personal has happened to my teacher or something within her family. Unfortunately, no matter what good and positive things I read or watch before bed, the nightmares still occur. But thank you kindly for the suggestion.
