Consistency and spontaneity

I find this to be a little contradicting in my mind. Like, consistency is about sticking to a plan and remaining uniform. While spontaneity is about doing things without planning, like they just happen naturally. I have read two advices in a book this week, one encouraged being consistent while another encourage being spontaneous. Which advice should you follow? I think I choose both, because there are things that require consistency while sometimes it fun to be spontaneous. What do you choose?
