Our Big Tree

Back during the winter, a big two-trunked tree about 80 feet tall blew down about 50 yards from our back door, harming nothing except some smaller trees. The tree, a hickory, which is excellent firewood, is perfectly placed for us to cut it from the top down to the roots, and it will make excellent firewood for the winter. We have three chain saws and a firewood splitter to get us ready for warm winter days and nights ahead of us out here in the country about 60 miles north of Nashville.

I would like to have a fireplace, unfortunately since I live in the city we heat with electricity, there is nothing romantic about it

You are truly lucky that the tree didn't fall on your house. Yes you can use the wood of the fallen tree to good use as fire wood for the harsh winter.

How far away from I-40 are you? Reason I ask is that when I lived in Memphis I used to have to drive to Chattanooga and I Westmoreland sounds familiar!

So you will have a decade's supply of firewood. How old is that tree?

I'm sure that tree will provide you with lots of nice smelling firewood and all for just a bit of hard work.

I'm sorry the tree blew down. I'm glad you can use it for firewood. I'm glad nothing was damaged when it came down.

That's a perfect gift for you. When will you start to cut the trunks for firewood?
