Enough Already With the Bad News

Went out earlier checking on the bird nests and babies. Have been gone since Sunday night. The cardinal eggs are ok, not hatched yet. The baby mockingbirds seem fine, hopping around the backyard being fed. BUT, checked on the four wren babies. The nest is turned upside down on the ground. The babies are gone. Yes they are gone. Who knows what happened. Not sure I want to know. Many predators in nature. Other birds, cats, snakes. I will leave it there. I understand this happens every day in nature. But I watched these babies hatch and checked on them every day. I cannot take any more bad news right now.

Maybe the storm overturned their nest

No, the storm has not made it to my home yet. It was miles away.

@LowRiderX About five feet. Could have been a cat or another bird.

I'm so sorry to hear about the wren babies . It's especially hard when we have observed their development the whole time.

I was at Home Depot this morning, and there was a bird's nest in the garden center in the garden hoses section! A bird built it's nest in the stack of hoses, and after a quick peak I could see there little baby birds in the nest! Not sure what kind of birds they are though. I could not see momma bird, but she was nearby screaming at me at the top of her lungs!

@CarolDM I can see how cute they must have been hopping around. That is not good news that the nest was turned upside down. I am sorry about the bad news.

I think the mother is transferring the babies so that they will not disturb. Birds don't like to let their babies seen until they can fly. The mother carried away the babies and transfer to another nest.

No the nest was destroyed as well as the babies. I have been birding for 15 years and have many photos. I have learned all about their behavior.

I know they are like your pets. I would feel the same if i were in your situation But do you think they can fly already?
