The Ponytail Plant

Some of you may remember that my daughter fell in love with the ponytail plant when we visited a nursery last month. She didn't buy it but made plans to go back and get it the next time we go to the flea market together. It is in the same little town. I didn't tell her that I planned and did go back to get a plant for her. They had almost sold out of them but I scored a medium size one. It is here at my house waiting for the next time I see her which should be soon. It will be a nice surprise for her. I got a little mad when I went to Lowes a few days later and saw a big one for under $20 and almost what I paid for this one. I should have gotten it, but had to go get groceries and didn't want to leave it in the car for that long. I'm sure this one will grow with the tender loving care she will give it. I have attached a photo of the Ponytail plant. I'm going to try to propagate one of the pony tails off of it and start a new plant. © 2020 Karen Gros, All rights reserved.

I'm not sure but I think this plant in our country is called 'elephant's paw'

@LowRiderX Yes, I found out it was in the palm family too. I wonder just how big they get. With the name Elephant Paw, I bet as big as you would want depending on the pot it is in. Putting in ground would be ultimate for growth! I have already repotted it, as it was root bound.

It may be called something else there. And I'm sure that is not the scientific name, just the common name.

@kareng it's a ponytail palm. It's scientific name is beaucarnea recurvata. It's also known as the elephant's foot.

Those are very popular houseplants here. I see them quite often in people's homes or on their front porches, and even at all the garden centers in the stores in town. I think your daughter will enjoy her surprise gift when you give it to her!
