Door locked out

Modern day doors are self locking which means the door locks itself when you close it and you will need a key to open it.
I got locked in my room for almost an hour today and I didn't have the keys. Luckily I had my mobile with me and could call my parents who were out in the garden and opened the door .
I wondered what would have happened if my mobile was not with me and there were no body around. Sounds scary, isn't it ?
Have you ever faced such a door lock situation?

I don't understand it. You are locked in? I know it is common to be locked out.

@Alexandoy it's quiet common type of locks available in most homes in my country. Not recommended for internal rooms of the house if no small kids.

the door can only be opened from outside if it gets locked or you have the key with you to open from inside. This can be disabled. Particularly useful when when there are kids in the house.

Sorry you experienced this. I don't remember anything like that happening with me we don't have self locking doors

Self locking doors are useful if you have little kids in the house for their safety . It is also there in all cars to avoid opening the door by kids while the car is moving.

@Butterfingers then it's good to have manual door locks. They are cheap and best.

Personally I've only seen auto locking doors that require keys to be opened from the outside but not from the inside. But even with that we need to be very careful to make sure we take the keys with us before closing the door when no one is inside. Else, we could be stuck outside!
I recommend you make sure you always have a set of spare keys in your room, just in case it happens again.

Really good advice. I will certainly ensure I have spare keys with me in the room. Better still I will replace the auto lock with manual lock.

There are some locks that you can open with a coin.

I haven't heard of such coin opening locks. Sounds really interesting. You don't need keys to open, right ??

Self locking? No thanks, I prefer to lock and open it myself, manual that is and not automatic. I think its very prone to accidental locking.

you are right such self locking door latches are not good. It's better to have mannual door locks. This self lock is usually good if kids are in the house who tend to manually lock themself up from inside and unable to open it .

Wasnt nice as I needed to pee and held on for two hours before I had to.
