One of Australia’s iconic brands is Blundstone. Blundstone leather work boots, along with gum boots, have been manufactured since 1870 and now produces 3 million a year. The firm began in Hobart, Tasmania and their gumboots are still made there. Some other lines are now made overseas.
British migrants, John and Eliza Blundstone, began by making tough boots for people like farmers and surveyors. During the 1930s depression, the company was sold to the current owners, the Cuthbertson family. During the war years, Blundstones were supplied to servicemen. Half a million pairs of boots were used on the Kokoda trail in New Guinea. So coveted were the boots that the right and left were shipped separately to stop theft by handlers on the wharf.
During the 60s, 90% of Australian men’s footwear came from the Blundstone factory. Over the last few decades, backpackers have helped spread the brand known globally with Blundstones now sold in over 70 countries.
Like the Hills Hoist and Vegemite, the name Blundstone, aka Blundies, is instantly recognisable, at least in Australia.
The photo shows Vince’s Blundstones.

I have to say I have never heard of this brand. Of course I have heard of Vegemite but I understand it is a sweeter version of Marmite. I do like Tam Tams though! As for Uggs I think they are ugly!

I agree that Ugg boots are ugly but they are lovely and warm. Crocs are ugly too but SOOO comfortable.

How much does an original pair made in your country cost?

@louievill Vince doesn't like spending a lot on boots but he has been really pleased with these. They have lasted a good few years and have given good service.

Are those mainly work boots or they the company release other lines as well?
I must admit this is the first time I've heard of the brand. Are they similar to Dr. Martens?

Same as Gary, I never heard of this brand. They surely produce sturdy shoes. We have Birkenstock in Europe, it is a German brand, they produce shoes with flexible cork and rubber footbeds, I know that many appreciate those kind of shoes, I like my Italian leader shoes.

The brand really seems to be a big one. But I never heard or seen it here. Maybe because here we are not much into gum boots or leather boots due to climate here. But definitely it is an iconic brand. From a humble beginning to 70 countries, one can really vouch that they maintained the quality.

@JudyEv I guess those 70 countries would include mainly Western countries ...America and European ones.

They are available in a lot of countries so perhaps they are available in India. Maybe they are only in speciality shops.

I know!! Crazy stuff. I wonder who got the job of pairing them up at the other end. It was during the war so I guess the quartermaster's store was given the task.

Many are steel-capped and are meant for hard work.
