Does anybody among you remember the original Superman movie of the late Christopher Reeve? And the Superman returns with Brandon Rouge?
Jor-El, played by the late Marlon Brando, said to the baby Kal-El about "the father becomes the son, and the son becomes the father".
This statement was again mentioned in Superman Returns wherein Brandon rouge whispered to his son who was asleep, this "The father becomes the son, and the son becomes the father".
I cannot truly decipher this statement of Superman and Jor-El; can you give your insight about this? Thank you.

My guess is the son continues the legacy of the father.

thank you. it is therefore implied that the young son of Superman will be the next superman.

I never watched the movies, I am not a fan of Superman. I have no idea of the meaning in the movie, what I think about this phrase is that once a man who is a father watching his son growing see the world through his eyes and he imagine how he will be once the son will also become a father.

the scene is now in my discussion. maybe superman was implying his son will also have his powers but will be ridiculed?

Jor-El in Christopher Reeve's superman was played by Marlon Brando. he also said those words to kal-El in outer space when Lois lane was asphyxiated in her car.

i believe there are only a few who played superman:
Christopher Reeve, Brandon Rouge, and Henry Cavill
