'Old news' appearing on Facebook as current

The photo has nothing to do with the post. This doe was feeding outside our window this morning but you can see she has spotted me. The next instant, she was gone.
What I wanted to share was this:
I’m not on Facebook but Vince has an account and often tells me bits and pieces that he sees there. We have a friend who is very religious but also very bigoted in many ways. She shared a post about a white policeman who was shot multiple times by black thugs. She said there were no protests about it and the men went unpunished, the inference being that they escaped justice because of their colour.
Vince checked out the incident and it happened some years ago. There was a lot of protest at the time and the men all received life sentences. I wish people would check their facts before putting up stuff like this. It only fuels the flames of hatred and prejudice.
I’m sure others have examples of ‘old’ news being circulated on FB as current happenings. Don’t you find it infuriating?

yes you are right. Many news articles on Facebook are old fabricated news to create bloodshed and spread misinformation.

I don't go on Facebook very often, maybe to look at a picture or say Happy Birthday to someone. A lot of what is spread around online isn't factual! Incidents have been changed, so the media gets a larger audience:( Tabloids are the same, with stories about famous stars. They're not even true, the facts have been distorted so badly.

@JudyEv that is the problem with fake news. People just share it without checking.

Absolutely I find it infuriating.
Beyond that actually, I occasionally find it so infuriating my brain wants to explode...so I take an extra pill...I'd put a
but it isn't actually funny.
Social media site owners love being billionaires but as regards social responsibility they are poorer than a street person in my opinion.
Mark Zuckerberg has a current net worth of around $70 BILLION...yes it may not be absolutely correct but give or take a few HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS it's in the ballpark
He needs to take some responsibility for what goes up on his site and maybe drop a few MILLION...not hundreds of millions...to employ some serious fact checkers and sort things out.
Too many people, in my opinion, are stupid enough to get all their news from FB and believe it whereas people with half a brain check their facts.

People really need to check dates when reading posted items. It makes me mad to see tsunami footage of Japan 2011 as the latest earthquake result. It also makes me mad to see racist hatred. They need to grow up and accept other people as humans.

If they'd only check their facts. But they all seem to want their little bit of notoriety.

It was probably planted by the Russians or something. I saw a pic of my cousin's son in a cast, and I texted my Aunt and asked what that was all about..She didn't know anything about it..It turns out it was an injury from about 2 years ago! Why would they be running that now?

Unfortunately, it happens a lot on different media.
Some time back, we had a video clip where a doctor of a famous hospital shared tips about raising immunity through diet, warm water etc.
Later on, it was revealed that she was no doctor but a teacher in a school.
Even I did not think of her as a doctor when she spoke.
Fake news abounds everywhere.
Now we even have some sites to verify fake news!!
So yes we have to be careful about various news.

Yes I do not regularly use such sites, but somehow in many cases I somehow make out that the news has something fishy.
But yes, such sites are quite useful.

It is what it is and when on FB one has to know when to simply ignore what some people post.
Mostly I blame the media because they are the ones that promote and sensationalize instances like 3 cops killing a man of color yet refuse to post those who were killed by someone of color. They are the ones I blame for promoting racism.

I agree completely. People should check the facts before sharing.
