I have to write an article

I just remembered that our school's public relations person asked me to write an article about what I do in my elementary music classes. She asked me a couple of months ago and it's due in August. "What you do, how you do it, why you do it" was the structure I was given. 500-1500 words. I haven't written anything formally for years; musicians communicate mainly through rehearsal and performance. I have, of course, written bullet point outlines for curriculum, phrases to summarize, etc. but I am now used to throwing stuff like this post together for social media, not an article that will be published in our school magazine that goes out to alumni and supporters. It has to look and sound professional. I publish music compositions and that doesn't freak me out at all. My parents were both English teachers (among other things; my mom taught French and my dad taught history). Neither of them would have had any trouble writing a professional-sounding paper. I guess I need to up my game. Have you ever written for journals, professional magazines or sites, authored books or anything?

I write all kinds of articles on many different topics for my writing jobs. It is not hard you just have to use subheadings and perhaps also bullet points to bring out some facts. You can find information online about writing professional papers

First I need to figure out what I want to say, then start formatting it. I never thought about looking online for how to write papers. I guess that shows my age, doesn't it? My thesis was written when we had to write by hand, look things up in books, and if we weren't good at typing we gave it to a typist to type! Red ink from professors all over the papers was also not unusual.

I'm not sure I've written anything 500 words long for a very long time.

I also did this when I volunteering in Tajikistan. I present my work through PowerPoint presentations. I was once featured on a local TV. I created two versions of my book in English and Tajik. I still need to publish them in the future.

@petatonicsca I had volunteered in this country before under UNICEF. The Tajik version is created by my translator.

Wow, did you write in Tajik? That is pretty amazing. What did you do in Tajikistan as a volunteer?

I put together the history of an association once. I'm sure you'll manage well but good luck anyway.

No, I haven't written any articles for journals or professional magazines. I know my capacity. I'm not good at writing.

Unfortunately, this is for the school where I teach, so I don't really have any choice.

That does sound intimidating.
