I'm on both sides of the fence

When the pandemic began I listened to those that claimed the flu took more life's than these swine flues did. Eventually I came on board and favored the social distancing and the wearing of masks too mostly because it was a requirement if I was to continue working my job. Eventually, we all got used to doing what we were told was best and honestly maybe the new rules and regulations concerning this have been for the best but maybe not. Who is to say? Recently I heard that our hospitals were being given thirty grand for any cases where covid was put on the death certificate. Several customers told me that their family had various ailments, went into the hospital because of them and died. Covid alone was named as the cause of death. Another elderly lady was kept from society completely and any family that visited kept their distance and wore a mask and she went into the hospital when she wasn't feeling well and tested positive although I don't believe she died. I've done my part from the end of February to now to the best of my ability, but more recently I've begun to wonder whether I was getting run down for some reason. Once I am at work after the first hour or so I feel as if I didn't sleep at all the night before. I'm not getting eight hours of sleep but I am getting six to seven most nights. Even the night I got eight hours the next day I felt as if I was run over by a truck. Why? Today I began asking other employees at work if they too get tired and I got a resounding yes! every time. From young and old. From those working a minimum amount of hours to those like me averaging eight hours per shift. One of the symptoms to covid is feeling fatigued. At one point I thought maybe I had it but when I'm at home I don't feel this tired. I thought maybe I was getting mono which I've never had before but now I believe it's because I have to rebreathe my own air when I'm working. It's pretty sad that when we follow the rules to a T that we feel like S--t. And unfortunately, the only thing I can do at present is take an unlimited time off work. My concern if that with my body feeling run down that I will catch things I don't normally catch even if it's not covid. Now I'm not advocating minimizing concerns or not taking precautions. I'm sure by now many of us have heard there are several states where the covid cases are in the rise again. I wish a third party could verify that info and see the tests to see whether it's all honest and above board. There are groups of people that gather together without considering the possibility they are bringing the pandemic closer to home when they don't follow any of the rules. So on one hand I'm all for the precautions and on the other I'm getting tired of feeling tired all day long. It would be nice if those that never wear masks would start and that those that do the eye right could follow their info instincts. Like I could remove my mask every few minutes every hour or something like that. We do have the plastic up as a barrier too. My grandbaby, in a chair and asleep in my arms. In the beginning we wore masks and saw him from afar and then took several precautions before being able to hold him but now we no longer follow those same rules and the baby is growing and has stayed safe. What are your thoughts on this matter?

Today I had some workers in the house. They could not do their jobs without at least breathing through their noses with no mask. Will I get the COVID after being indoors for over 3 months? Who knows. I´m a fatalist. Whatever will be will be.
When I was just a little girl I asked my mother, what will I be Will I be pretty, will I be rich Here's what she said to me. Que Sera, Sera, Whatever will be...

I'm not a fatalist but it's hard to think otherwise sometimes because of everything. Even though what will be is accurate there's all room for prayers and expectation that we won't be the statistic.

Were those people local? And do you know how many new infections per day are occurring in your local area?

@DaddyEvil those sharing were shopping in my store but I don't know whether they live here or not. We used to get people from further away because we carry better produce and meats. Michigan infections are lower than all other states at present. The situations mentioned may have been from a previous month. I work in a store similar to and the rough size of Walmart and no one here has gotten covid even with the stockers being nearer the public. That says a lot, I think. We have had some that took a voluntary time off if they had babies or lived with grandparents to make sure they didn't pass anything on.

I understand your feelings and frustrations regarding this whole pandemic and our response to it. I think many of us are feeling the same way. I don't have any answers for you, other than to tell you I am very empathetic. I wish this whole thing would hurry up and end so we can get our lives back on track.

@MarshaMusselman I agree that this thing may drag on for a year or more. I hate wearing my mask, but I do so for the societal good. I certainly wouldn't want to spread the virus to anyone who may be susceptible to the virus or who may fall into a high risk category.

@moffittjc I am in the higher risk category because of my age and while I agree sort of, I also need some germs to stave off future ailments that may come our way. Plus of at least five hundred workers at my job none have come down with it yet and many work near those refusing to wear their masks.

I doubt it will end any time soon maybe not for another year or more. This may be the track we needed to be prepared to live. If the leaders would be honest that would be one thing but they've never had that inclination before so why start now? I heard from some nurses that even when they working before this pandemic showed up they didn't wear a mask non-stop.

I wore a mask back in March and couldn’t keep it on. I felt like I was going to hyperventilate. So we have remained home since. When we do venture out again I will wear a mask, but I won’t be able to be out long, because I’d be fearful of taking it off now.

There are reports online that say you are not alone in feeling tired after wearing the mask all day at work, Marsha. But the medical people are saying the cause of the tiredness is from being on heightened alert for signs of Covid 19 mostly and only a small amount from actually wearing the mask. Most of us are either used to wearing the masks by now or have given up bothering to wear them. I know I am one of the few people who actually wear a real mask at Walmart. Everyone else now wear what looks like a duck's bill. It is a "mask" in name only. It is made of fabric with one tie that goes around the back of the head and hangs down over their face but is totally open on both sides and the bottom of the fabric. Others at Walmart now wear crocheted "masks" that are double stitched so have large holes throughout the covering. At another Walmart people have "masks" that cover only their mouths. It looks ridiculous and gives no protection to either the associates or the customers. *shake my head*

I agree the mask is making you feel tired because you're rebreathing your breath. I have a very hard time wearing it because I feel like I can't breathe, but I wear it in public. I'm glad I'm retired and don't need to wear it in the apartment where I spend the majority of my time.

I sympathise with the discomfort of constant mask wearing. I do think the precautions are worth it if we are ever going to keep businesses, schools, etc. open.
