Well, That Won't Work

I purchased window coverings for a rather large window in our son's condominium. I ordered 4 long window panels, and one of the panels is about 1-inch shorter than the other 3 panels. In my younger days, I would have done the following to make all 4 of the panels the same length: 1. I would have removed the stitching from the hems of all 4 panels., 2. I would have ironed the bottom of the 4 hem-less panels so that the creases caused by the fold of each hem were nice and flat. 3. Then, I would have used my handy-dandy sewing scissors to cut the bottom of each of the 4 panels so that all 4 panels were of the same length. 4. After that, I would have sewn new hems that resulted in all 4 panels being of the same length. In my older days, this is what I am going to do: 1. I will hang only the three panels that are of the same length.

Can you send the other one back? I learned to make curtains up in Montana last Summer!

I am sure your curtains are wonderful. I think sending it back would be more work than I want to do. It is OK, I may find a use for that too-short panel.

@Corbin5 Was that a measurement mistake by the seller? Hey, with my new skill, maybe I can stop by and fix it for you!

@TheHorse Yes, the manufacturer messed up. I bought the curtains online from Wayfair. If you can fix the too-short panel, you can have at it.

That would really bother me, it has to be straight and even.

It is funny that our son could not care less but his mother sure does.

@Corbin5 I thought the same thing, he probably would never even notice.

Debbie, you made a good point. We bought drapes for our big living room window and one panel is too short. What did we do about this? We leave the curtains open all day long! If we don't mention it, no one ever notices

I thought that he could do that too, however being a guy, he does not care if there are 3 panels or 4 panels. That helps.

@Corbin5 Our big picture window has four large panels, we bought at J.C. Penney's. One of the panels is shorter, which I basically ignore. Jay brought it to my attention and I said, 'Oh well.'

@kobesbuddy Our son does not care at all, a guy thing, but it sure bothered me. I will use panel #4 for something. His backdoor has a window and I may use that panel there.

I don’t know how that happened. It would have bothered me tremendously. So glad 3 panels will do for your son. You’re a good mom,

Men don't seem to care about things like that. We women do, they all need to be the same. We have shades in a couple rooms. The one in the bedroom doesn't like to stay even and it's so annoying when it looks crooked.

You are so right. Women seems to care about certain things much more than men do. Our son was not concerned about the too-short panel but it sure bothered me.

Three panels will work out fine. I might toss panel number 4, the too-short one, in the trash.

I would do the very same, and then return the one that is not the correct length and try to find something nice to buy with the store credit that you will receive. Don't forget to remind your son how lucky he is that his sweet mother is helping him like this.

I will remind him, thank you. He never asks for anything, but my husband and I seem to just feel the need to do something for him due to him being a sweetheart too.

@Corbin5 I know the feeling. I just texted our son that he and his wife should not be shopping at Home Sense prior to their move until they see us first. I have a $100 gift card to put into a card for them to help them get settled when they move. And that is just because of them being such sweethearts.

That is a good idea. There is a vent under that window so I would have to be careful not to cover the vent.

An inch is not a big difference that would be noticedis there no place like on the sides where it's less conspicuous?

Well, I can still tell the difference even if the shorter panel is on the side. I will just use the three panels and use the other one for the window on his backdoor.

If I had let the panel down, then the hems would not be of the same size, and that would have bothered me too.

hmm, like the crocheted curtains hanging now in our windows. since these are crocheted, it is expected that the threads might pull longer, that is why the lengths are not straight.

@Corbin5 maybe if it is the middle of 3 curtains? hahaha! that was what my mother did before, and she would fold a 'flower' at the middle of the 2 long curtains so the 3 will be equal in length.
