Happy Canada Day. I have not ever paid attention to it before. It is very hot and humid here in Kansas. The harvest is on in many parts of the state. The people who cut the grass for hay on the empty field came back. Looked around, and I guess decided there was more to harvest. They even baled it last night. Took six bales away, but I see one more. I went outside first thing. If the grass had been dry, I would be mowing, but it is wet from dew. It is just as dark looking now as it was two hours ago. I hope we get a good down pour. I am going to make some yogurt. I think I will try making sourdough starter as well. Both sour dough bread and yogurt are very good for you and yogurt parfaits with fruit are very cooling desserts. It is Wednesday and I do not want to do much of anything. In Oklahoma, my brother has gone back to just video church, because they are having spikes in the virus again. Many of his people are at risk. I hope you have a really good day.

I have heard of a lot of people making sourdough lately. Doesn't it take several days to make as it needs to sit and ferment?

Yes, you ferment a starter. I have made other fermented products.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I had a starter from that given to me, but I did not feed it every day. I will use any leftover from this to make pancakes and batter type foods.

@GardenGerty The only one I can think of is Amish Friendship Bread. It seemed to take a week before we could bake it, and we had to add to it and knead it each day.

I stayed in rooms with air conditioning most of yesterday. Today is better, but is quite humid because we had early morning rain.

Happy July. I don't pay attention to Canada either.. Not my holiday. It's sunny and warm here, but I love it. I think your brother is being very smart!

Have fun making yogurt and sourdough bread starter. I'm sorry your brother needed to go back to video church. I hope the numbers go down soon and things can return to normal.

He has a very small congregation, in fact he has more people watch his services than usually attend. So many people are in the at risk category there.

@just4him It occurred to me that this may be a way similar to the persecution to cause the word to spread.

@GardenGerty We have a nice sized congregation, not large, not small. Perfect for getting to know everyone. When we were online-only, my pastor said he had a lot of people watching from around the world. It's great there's another avenue the Word can get out and reach.

I love sourdough bread - yum! I am not enjoying the humidity either. Yesterday was the first day it had been really bad.

I made a starter and sourdough once, and it did not suit me, tasted way too salty. One of our farm papers had a recipe recently that sounded like it might suit me, so I will try it again. It is a healthier bread.

Happy July, Heather. Sorry to hear about the heat and humidity. I grouch enough when it's hot and dry, if I lived where the humidity was high I'd never make it. Or the people who had to listen to me wouldn't, lol. It hasn't been bad here the past couple days, and we never get to 100 degrees here. We are due for some 90 degree days here this month. It hurts even in the dry heat here because we're at 7100 feet. That lucky old sun feels awfully close at anything over 85 degrees. I'm glad I got these little Zen coolers. It surprised me how well they work putting them in the right locations.j And then the fan to circulate the air. There is an a/c unit upstairs, it would be unbearable up there otherwise. There is a shorter summer here in Santa Fe than there was in Paradise, which is just fine with me. I prefer the cold and some snow.

Guess I should look up Zen coolers. I have been places that were less humid and it does make a difference.

In a way it is, but it is okay that he is able to do this for them. There are people on dialysis and with cancer, etc. Much better to keep them healthy.

It is a process, and you know, it is something that we have the ability to do and the foods are good for us.
