Beautiful day here on the Oregon Coast

I was painting my house as a few of you know. I ran into a bit of dry rot on the south facing wall and while trying to fix that I ran into a whole bunch more. I am now replacing six sheets of siding on that wall. Sigh... I am here for a few minutes, taking a break. This kind of work was a lot easier when I was twenty years younger. Anyway, the weather has decided to be cooperative (for a change) but unfortunately I have a narrow window before the rains return.(Monday per weather forecast which could mean Sunday or not until Wednesday.) I'm staying home, working my tired old bones to dust on this holiday weekend. What fun plans do you have?

What a beautiful photo! I am tired of grocery shopping this afternoon that I donĀ“t want to go out this weekend.

That is one of the places I go for tide pooling. The tide is in in that photo so no tide pools.

@cperry2 This is the first time I heard about tide pooling. I will check this out online.

@thelme55 If you have time check out some of my earlier posts. I have talked about several of the creatures found in tide pools. It is something I enjoy and will soon get to go do again. Because of a bad knee, I have had to stay away from the slick surfaces for the past two and a half years. I've had the knee replaced (back in January) and it is getting to where I have the confidence to go back.

Our rains are due to return tomorrow. I need to do a bit of baking today.

@cperry2 Cooking smells always fire up the appetite, don't they?

Have fun with that. In winter, baking is such a great pass time. I don't do it, my wife does, but I love the smells that permeate the house.

@JudyEv Oh, without a doubt. I love the smell of bread cooking but also several food dishes as well. But I think my favorite is to smell steaks grilling on a barbeque. A smell we are getting quite a bit of right now.

When you start a work, you never know how long it will take, you always find something more to fix. Take it easy and rest time by time.

@cperry2 I often overdo when I want to finish something, but I pay the day after. Good idea not to let your wife help. I do not let my husband help anymore after he had his spine problem. Happy Independence Day.

@LadyDuck Thank you. I am two hours into pulling down panels and taking a break. My wife dresses up in her painting clothes and is slowly priming the new panels. She insists on helping despite her issues, so she is priming the new panels. I put them on the stand and she does not have to bend over to reach them.

That is great advice. I overdid it yesterday because of the time crunch. Early last night I realized that I have to factor in my age to this equation. Doing so, I am beginning to doubt I will make the deadline on Sunday night. But I will still give it a shot, just not putting all my eggs in that basket. I went and got more plastic sheeting to cover the hole just in case I do not finish. If my wife were her normal healthy self, I think it would be easy, but she is nursing a bad back and I do not want her out there doing anything that might aggravate it. (lifting, carrying, holding things in place) I wish I had not chosen this moment to start working on the issue but, I'm too deep into it to back out now.

Well, yes, I suppose it is. Our celebration of independence from England. So, are you planning a great nonholiday weekend?

@MALUSE I am retired as well. And normally I would agree with every day being a holiday, but when work needs to be done, I have to get out there and do it.

@cperry2 It does not sound like a fun job at all. I cannot think that far back to what I did then. I also do not celebrate the 4th of July. We have our own Independence Day here in Israel is around April.

@cperry2 That is nice that you understand about the differences in holidays. Glad the job is done.

I understand about the differences in holidays. I sometimes forget I am speaking to a world wide audience when I post here. Fortunately the job is done and it went better than I had anticipated.

Good luck on finishing your project before the rains come. No plans here. Just bird watching in my yard.

@CarolDM I had some dark-eyed juncos who had taken up residence in a debris pile in my back yard. I seriously doubt they have remained though. I haven't seen them since nest building. Unfortunately, I have had two rubber boas (nearly scared me out of my skin) hanging out near that pile. It is sad but I believe it is unlikely they would have passed up on an easy meal of eggs or baby birds. When I have some time to sit, I'll watch and see if the birds are still around.

@cperry2 I would love to see those, never seen them before except on videos. Bird watching is good for the soul.

Yes, that would be much better, but I wasn't being greedy. Still, I have to finish it now that I've started.

That's a lot of siding to fix. I wish you luck there. At my house we're trying to get floor tiles up the living room floor, preparing for the main work on Monday. Yup. Fun times for sure.

@cperry2 I'm sorry for the issues you ran into. I hope it's all fixed now and hope you had a good rest after all the work you did. Beautiful photo! I'm just watching a movie. "When A Stranger Calls." The original version. And using today to try and catch up on MyLot.

The work is complete as is the painting project for the rest of the house. Once I got past the fear of doing work I had never done before, (several youTube videos helped a lot.) The wall panels went up fairly quickly.

Maybe, it certainly does look inviting. If I told you the water temps here are around 53 degrees F (11.5 C) would you still want to get in the water? The coastal waters here rarely get above 55 degrees F. We get a flow that comes from the arctic and pushes down the coast. If I were there in the Philippines, I would be in the water every chance I got. I did that a lot (swam in the Gulf of Mexico) when I lived in Texas many years ago.

I would have appreciated the help. I have my wife helping but she is hurt and trying to recover from a back injury. So, she cannot do a lot. It's okay. I can get it done, though it might take a bit longer than the two days I have left before the rain. I have already had to hang plastic to protect things once.
