Hey, with the 4th of July this weekend how about a trivia quiz celebrating U.S. states! That's one way to celebrate Independence Day, a series featuring some of those American states mentioned in songs. So, I'm going to start off at the beginning using states with the letter "A." And for me the perfect video song to get things off with a "bang" is Neil Diamond's "America." Enjoy... Now it's on to our trivia clues. Whodunnit? 1. This 70's Southern Rock band wrote this song as a tribute to the studio musicians at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, where they recorded from 1970-1972. The line from the tune ""Muscle Shoals has got The Swampers" popularized these musicians from this deep south state. The tune also was about southern pride and all the great things this state had to offer. Some of the other lyrics was in response to Neil Young, who had written an unflattering song mentioning the state. This 1974 tune was the first single from the group and their first top ten hit. The band eventually had to disband after a 1977 plane crash took the lives of 3 members one being their lead singer. -Do you know the name of this state song and the Southern musicians who recorded it? 2. This song can be seen as a follow-up to this Canadian artist's 1970 song "Southern Man." The tune was a commentary about racism in the South. The musician was not specifically singling out a particular state, the lyrics just happen to fit what he was feeling at that time. This singer has been with some successful groups in addition to being a solo artist. He formed the influential and critically successful folk rock group Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills in 1966. The artist's guitar work, deeply personal lyrics and signature high-pitched tenor singing voice, define his long career. His music with his back up band "Crazy Horse" featured him using a distorted style of electric guitar playing, later popularized by alternative rock "Grunge bands" like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. -Do you know this Canadian Rock icon and his Southern state song? 3. Bonus- This song was a tribute to the immigrants who came to America to seek opportunity. One Presidential candidate in the 80's used this tune as his campaign theme when he ran for the Country's highest office. -Do you know the name of this Presidential candidate? Double Bonus- Neil Diamond wrote a song with a girl's name as part of the title. It was called "Cracklin' Rosie." -Can you name another song Neil wrote that had a girl's name as it's title? Ok, time to "state your case" and solve these mystery songs and artists. If your stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as the group The Four Tops might say, "Reach Out and I'll Be There." Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! Happy 4th of July Until next Saturday... 1. TURN IT UP! Ol’ Ronnie Van Zant and the boys were from Jacksonville, Florida, so why are they calling Alabama a sweet home? 2. “High-pitched tenor”? Neil’s been gargling with whatever Dylan used to “enhance vocals.” . That song shares the name with the state, as well as the first song the Louvin Brothers ever recorded in 1947. BONUS: That guy who pardoned Merle Haggard while governor of California?! DOUBLE BONUS: Given you’re talking about southern states in this post, I’ll give you a Neil Diamond song with a girl’s name: “Shiloh.” The name of one of the worst battles in Civil War history was also a girl who “had other plans” in Neil’s life.

@FourWalls You guys smoke them anyway, be like, yay easy win in basketball. They smoke you in football though. I like UCLA so no room to talk about either sport. What happened to my team? Used to be legendary in basketball and decent in football, now they suck at both saying education is more important.

@iluvuabado86 Totally agree with you on Neil's song Two theories about Sweet Caroline which was a song inspired by Diamond seeing the Kennedy's daughter on the cover of Time magazine. The other explanation was it written about Neil's wife at the time which is true. So, both ideas were used to write the song.

Okay, I'm in a funk with states starting with A other than Arkansas. So that's my guess for the first one. No clue to the song, however. #2 The only thing I know about Stills and that isn't much was he was part of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. So, I'm guessing one of those guys is a Canadian. Presidential candidate - Jimmy Carter? Double bonus - I hope I have this one right - Caroline
