Shallot or onion?

Here, we call the red shallot and the white onion. But to me they are almost the same although the white onion is better for the salad or for semi-cooked dishes.

@nawala123 yes, usually the white onions are big, much bigger than the red shallots.

Anna is correct. Asian shallots are really small and pinkish. Onions are bigger.

We call it onion or Kitunguu in my native language swahili.

I'm not sure of the difference either. I always thought onions were bigger than shallots but I don't really know that.

@nawala123 The large ones are onions and shallots are much smaller.
