Shallot or onion?

I am sometimes confused to call this, wether shallot or onion. Can you tell me what do you this in English used in your country?

Here, we call the red shallot and the white onion. But to me they are almost the same although the white onion is better for the salad or for semi-cooked dishes.

@nawala123 yes, usually the white onions are big, much bigger than the red shallots.

Those in the photo are onions shallots are those showed in the photo posted by @MALUSE, the Asian shallots are smaller and pink, but the taste is sweater than onions.

Anna is correct. Asian shallots are really small and pinkish. Onions are bigger.

For me, shallots are the small onions. The bigger ones are called onions, either red or white.

Based on your picture those are onion. Shallot is smaller and what we called in bahasa "bawang Merah" Shallot also has stronger taste compared to the onion.

For me they are both a kind of onion,but to differentiate the two,i will say white onion and red onion.
