What's in the casket?

We’ve been busy making a little display case for a friend and I thought you might like to see my slightly bigger casket that Vince bought me for my 21st birthday. These were very popular back then and available in various sizes. I keep my handkerchiefs in it – yes, I still use hankies. The dust gets in the indentations but with a tooth-brush and vacuum cleaner, I can keep it reasonably clean. I was very thrilled with it at the time although he dumped me soon after. A couple of years later, he decided perhaps he’d made a mistake. I wouldn’t be brave enough now to ask if he still thought that.

@judyev Even though I’m not American my immediate thought here was that Vince had made you a coffin. This is what comes from trying to read things before being properly awake.

I know 'casket' was a bad choice. I know a coffin as a casket too. It's not really a case. I guess it's really just a box.

@xFiacre Your father got off lightly. Flowers for my brother were $A250. $A250!! What a cheek but what can you do? Your hands are tied to a degree.

I'll bet he thinks he made a very wise choice. I like that casket, it's very ornate

I feared the worst reading "casket", but I now see what you mean. Mom had a very big one, she kept new blank sheets inside, it is true that it collected a lot of dust in the indentations.

@JudyEv The one of my mom has the "right size" for a casket.

They were the 'in' thing at the time. 'Casket' was a good choice. I should have just called it a box.

That's a very beautiful box. I love the intricate and detailed carvings on it. Makes it very unique and special. Vince did good in picking that out for you. He also did good in realizing his mistake in dumping you and re-asking you out! I'm glad you've kept that box over the years!

@moffittjc Someone else will have to dispose of them when I'm gone if I don't find homes for them beforehand.

That’s beautiful. We call caskets coffins. My husband bought me a jewelry box very similar to that.

@JimBo452020 Once I recovered () it didn't really worry me but I wasn't averse to going out with him again as we did have a lot of fun together. We both probably needed to mature a bit first time round although by today's standards we should have been old enough to know our own minds.

I suppose we went together for perhaps 7 or 8 months then Vince was transferred away so it was harder then to maintain contact. And we both needed to grow up a bit I guess. But yes, it does seem it was meant to be. Thanks

Beautiful! I sold a ornate wooden box an old one that belonged to my Mom on letgo.com. The buyer was so happy buying it for Hus girlfriend. It was a light brown color that insects didn't get to. It was about 12" x 12" by 3" in depth.
