A little bit of extra that we found at the Butterfly Palace was the Reptile Room. Here they had on display case after case or aquarium after aquarium of lizzards, frogs, etc. on display. This was very interesting, as we saw several things we had never seen before. The Alligator Lizzard was one of those new to me. The Alligator Lizzard was one of those on my list of things I had never seen before. It had a spiny body and its head was also in the shape of an alligator. It was only about 9 inches long and was cute in his own little way. Have you ever heard of or seen an alligator lizzard before? © 2020 Karen Gros, All rights reserved.

Never even knew such a thing existed! Where are they native to?

They are native to the Pacific coast of North America and can be found from southern British Columbia and the northwestern United States through Mexico and Central America to Panama.

@kareng I don't know. It gets pretty hot out that way in Nevada and Arizona but they don't have our humidity.

@kareng So I take it they wouldn't survive very well in our neck of the woods?

These alligator lizards grow up very big. They are common in jungles here. I have seen them but not of late.

I've never seen or heard of an alligator lizard but it does look interesting. I'm not fond of reptiles but I do like seeing them in a zoo which I find weird since they aren't my favorite along with snakes.
