An off duty Clarkstown Police Officer named Paul Munding is being called a hero after he dove into a swimming pool to save four year old Ella Shaffer who was celebrating her birthday in her parents home. Ella was hanging on to the ladder on the edge of the pool when she lost the grip and fell into the pool struggling to keep her head above water. Officer Munding who was off the clock at the time of the incident, jumped into the swimming pool with the clothes he was wearing to save Ella from drowning in the pool. What likely happened was that Ella was in the pool by herself with her relatives close by when she lost the grip of being on the ladder and falling into the pool when the police officer saved her. I am sure that Officer Munding will receive a reward from his superiors in the near future for his act of saving the life of a child on her birthday on Saturday.

Just reading the title is already a sure heart-warming story. A birthday girl huh. But my ever doubtful mind wonders how the officer got to see the girl in the pool.

I think that the officer heard her scream for help.

@Deepizzaguy that is a lucky shot. The family is there and they didn't hear the scream. There is something wrong with the details. Take note that she is the birthday girl so how come she was left alone in the pool?

@Alexandoy She was probably in the pool for a short period of time like say one minute.

It is so easy to take your eye off the kids just for a second and that is when accidents happen.

You are correct since an off duty police officer was the closest person to save Ella from drowning in the swimming pool.
