Published a Short Story...

Good afternoon (or whatever time of day/night it is when you're reading this). I do sincerely hope that you are all well. I'm not too bad. A few frustrations regarding work and my own lack of organisational skills that mean I haven't managed to complete as many writing tasks as I should have. Otherwise, not too bad. I'm still working from home, and have been for a little over 3 months now, I think. I don't mind it - it's saving me money on bus fares and it's saving 3+ hours a day by not having to go anywhere. It does also mean that I'm not getting outside as much, though, as I haven't really needed to go anywhere. My most exciting news is that I published a story. It's a very short story of just 7 pages. I published it through Lulu.com simply because it seems to be the only free self-publishing platform that will print books under 24 pages! My story is, however, also available on Kindle as an eBook. I can't advertise on here, of course, but I wanted to share the excitement. It's particularly exciting as it was a story I thought was lost. I'd written it 4 years ago as a piece for my degree. I think I shared it on Bubblews (which, of course, is now dead) and, if I saved it anywhere else, it would have been saved on a dead computer! Anyway, I found the story in my emails - I had sent it to a friend and had completely forgotten that I'd done so. Once I'd edited it for clarity, I published it. It's my second published paperback (the first was a poetry book but I don't advertise that because it wasn't my best poetry! It was more as an experiment to see how it went. That was so long ago that I don't think I'd even heard of Kindle at the time! I've not been very busy with my office job today but I did get a bit of writing done on my personal 'big' project. I've just been wasting some time before my lunch break. It's now lunch time so I will bid you farewell for now. Anything going on in your lives? How are my fellow writers doing with your own exploits?

During the lockdown I wanted to do something. Hence I came with the idea of writing a book with minimum resources. Thus came out "jugaad econony"

I write all sorts of things. Stories are not really my forte but I have written a few. I have a poetry blog (not that I've kept that updated - I still have some old things I need to put on) and most of my writing is factual articles. Unfortunately, I don't write for a living as, although I've had some good experiences and paying clients, I've never been lucky enough to earn a regular liveable income! I have a 'proper' office job - we started working from home because of Covid-19. I do prefer working from home but I'm not doing my usual job, and there are one or two advantages of being in the same room as colleagues.

Thank you. Yes, quite excited. I'll be more excited once people start buying my books and things and when I finally finish my big project!

@DianneN Yes, lots more. Most of my work has been short articles and poetry. My 7 page story is the longest complete thing I've done. My big project is currently at 22 pages but I'm getting a bit lost with it at the moment.

Congratulations on publishing your story. I know of another member that has a lot of books on Lulu. Just making calls and seeing people about some home projects that need to be done. I've been bad about writing lately. The only place I'm writing is here on MyLot...and very little of that!

Thank you. My mum has, I think, also published on Lulu (or she was going to, I can't remember. It's been a long time). I don't know about you but I find it difficult to keep up/get back into the habit of regular writing when I've not done much for so long. Seems like you are busy. We have things that need to be done around the home but I'm too lazy to do them We are hoping to start seeing people again after not being able to for months!

@pumpkinjam Yes, it's tough to get back into the writing habit. I hope you get to do some visiting with friends soon.
