There are way too many strange looking Masks for Covid-19

The problem with advertisements is that many Covid-19 masks are being sold all over the internet that do not all have the same protective abilities against you sneezing Covid-19 all over people from a short distance. The basic mask, the surgeon's mask is available and is the light weight one use only type that is quite effective at protecting others from you sneezing or coughing on them when within a short distance like talking distance and with social distance of 6 feet there is no chance of spreading it as long as they themselves do the same. And the N95 masks are recommended. Do yourself a favor and look for the N95 type mask. They are less expensive. If you go for the cloth types, make sure they have at least 2 layers and are washable and even they have to be thrown away after 30 days use in general.

Any face covering is still better than no face covering. But you are right N95 is what to look for.

They tested some that were so bad that if you saw it under a special light you could see a sneeze travel over 15 feet.

Why do the cloth masks have to be thrown away? Can't they just be re-washed?

@lookatdesktop I use those paper ones too. And I'm not going to lie, I've reused them more than once. But like you said, I don't spend my whole day around people either.

The cloth masks, the ones I refer to last 30 days of reuse, and simply have to be washed, so apparently after 30 days there is some degree of degradation. I have only used the paper masks or whatever it is they are made of, the ones that are flat until you pinch them then pull them under the chin. Those are one day only use but I have used those more than once myself. I don't spend 8 hours a day around people. I am pretty much house bound.

The N95 type mask is what people wear here, or the surgeon's masks that we must throw after usage.

Thank you for the information but our streets here are not crowded and I see people without masks. I do have one regular type mask but I have been in hiding so I have not been out in a long time.

My wife and I always wear a mask in public going to shopping centers to buy groceries and to the post office to mail letters and to the pharmacy to pick up medicine. The number of Covid-19 cases have increased in the state of Texas and in particular, Dallas. The local county hospital tests every single person who walks through the doors of the ER, no exceptions. My wife was tested a few days ago and she tested NEGATIVE for Covid-19. That is good but it would not be good if we had ignored the mask mandate by the local Mayor and the Governor of the State of Texas, Greg Abbott. He is on top of the situation. I also remember to do as told, to wash my hands for 20 seconds regularly after touching anything in public or handling mail and wear glasses to protect my eyes not only from bright sunlight but for the fact that the droplets can get to you in the eyes and they say don't touch your face unless you have gone back home and washed your hands first. This Covid-19 is a very bad virus and not wearing a mask is the reason the states that ignore things are having way too many cases thus, public schools are pushing back the date to reopen to possibly as late as September, the State Fair of Texas is not opening this year either. The public pools are closed and the recreation centers won't be open in Dallas until next month.

We wear our masks when we go out (which is rare). We have a whole box of masks just in case.

I use this surgical mask and you are right. Perhaps if given the chance, i will buy this N95. I stay most of the time at home but my hubs goes out everyday.

The problem with masks is the reusing of them too much. If they are paper and the air is very humid moisture can actually restrict breathing to a degree that can make people with respiratory conditions such as asthma, have trouble. I have re-used some because when i do go shopping I am only there for about 30 minutes tops and I go straight back home and I place the mask on the car's dashboard so the UV light from the sun can kill whatever viruses are on the mask. Not sure about the science though It just an educated guess on my part about the dashboard and the UV rays of the sun killing it.

I use both. But I find the double layered cloth masks more comfortable

We don't have to worry about it. We have a homemade washable facemask.
